The Argentinians are desperate to be offended.

The Telegraph said:
Local councillor Juan Manuel Romano said the digits 269 on the number plate of the Ford Mustang Mustang Richard Hammond was driving were close to the 255 Britons killed during the 1982 war.
He added that the numbers 646 on James May's Lotus could be taken as a reference to the 649 Argentinian casualties.

Judging by this I reckon they'd of been kicked out even without the 928 plate. Seems the Argentinians were looking for any reason.

Well of course they would. The Argies aren't exactly enamoured with the UK at the moment and will do anything to stir up trouble in order to give themselves a soapbox about the Falklands. And Clarkson does rather epitomise what they perceive to be the old fashioned patriotic Imperialist Brit.

Perhaps by some remote luck (1 in a billion), I would agree the JC plate and car were a coincidence.

But not all three of them. The chances would be impossible that all 3 turned up with plates related to the war and they were all bought without knowledge of the other.

Sounds like a Top Gear joke gone wrong.

Impossible it was a mistake. Deliberate and the fact Top Gear have not said much.

What do you mean, all 3?

That's tinfoil hattery in the extreme.

Can you please point out where all 3 plates relate to the Falklands War?

If it was on purpose good on them for getting it up the Argies, who cares if it pissed them off. Hopefully we will see some of the footage on the show.

If you require more tinfoil hats though I believe the SNP are currently doing a two for one deal.

Something isnt correct with that Porsche.

The Reg H982 FKL comes back as first registered in 1991. However on the T'internet there are other photos of that car from the rear. The plate on the back clearly reads H1 VAE which is registered to another Porsche.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2779236/Je...

Look at the first picture, where its parked in front of the Lotus, and again further down. The car has different plates on front an rear. Perhaps the 2nd is a private plate and has now been placed on a newer car. But the H982 FKL plate does appear to belong on that car

Seeing as though TG are quiet on the subject. They have not issued a cry of coincidence have they nor they have admitted it.

TG joke gone wrong, again.

Sorry, why has it gone wrong. Lots of press for the new series, no doubt some great footage to edit (Think Alabama special on crack) and they get to piss of the Argies big time.

Sounds all very right to me.

Agreed. I think it's a step too far. Clarkson is a bit of a tit most of the time and has an arrogance that makes him think he can waft above it all.

His fans might clap and applaud but those with an once of intelligence just start to see him for what he is.

I suspect his ascendency is about to take a downward slope if he continues like this ....

BBC just reported plate was on the car from 2001, TG brough the car this year with said plate.

(implication is that it had a personalised plate on it before 2001)

Really…….I can almost guarantee that this particular episode will achieve the highest ratings of any show to date. If he has managed to piss of the Argies, and lets face it, it does not take much, more power to him. Don't know if you have noticed but they are hardly indiscreet in the contempt and hatred that have for the UK, in fact their PM spends a great deal of time shouting it from every rooftop.

Perhaps you would rather we just apologised to them though.

Argentina is one of the places I would love to visit and what was the point they were trying to make?

The year of the war, the number which died, the number of injuries. This is not 50 years ago so the memories of peoples relatives being mauled are still quite real - Is that really good?

JC is one of my heros, but did do they really have to piss of entire countries?

I know a Mexicon who now refuses to watch TG.

I don't think they were trying to make any point, it was a coincidence.

If they were planning to offend people they wouldn't have chosen a method as subtle as a number plate with a tenuous link to the Falklands war.

Why would you rather avoid the controversy, should we just sit in the corner and get rolled over for the fear of upsetting peoples delicate sensibilities. As I said before, have you actually heard how the Argies refer to us.

Yes, coincidence.
