Surely that immobiliser fob would just fly out of the hole and immobilise the car at the first set of lights!?
I'd sure as hell lose it pretty quickly. Didn't look as if you can stick it on a key ring.

Once the immobiliser has been turned off it doesn't kick back in until you turn the car off. If it didnt then you would've needed to have taped the fob to the wiring under the dash. Once mobilised it can be put back in your pocket. The cig lighter socket used was one of the those with a cap on so that would stop it flying out.

I think the only way forward for what is a tired programme now, is for ED to do a COMPLETE STRIP DOWN AND RENOVATE. NO MORE GROTTY RUSTY BITS BOLTED BACK ON WITH RUSTY BOLTS. Then raffle it to the watching public. Say 1000 tickets @ £10 each ?

I noticed in the final shot where the car is spinning on the turntable thing, they had put the immobiliser on a keyring, it was of course bright green!

Things they had not done before...

Used inconel as a heat shield.
Drilled carbon fibre and told us that the fibres were hazardous and electrically conductive.
Fitted a lightened flywheel.
Showed us a way of fitting keyless ignition.

Was it worth it? Only just. I used to watch the programmes many times. Now I watch about 20 minutes worth (fast forwarding through the other 40) just once and delete.

That's a bit harsh. People love repetition if they really like the show. Top Gear lived on not doing anything new whatsoever once the format was set in stone 12 or 13 years ago....

I thought the Caterham episode was alright. It had it's flaws but I've seen a lot worse on WD.

Do they have to do a new car every time? Could they not do a few cars they've done before (at least 4/5 series ago)? They seem to be running out of cars to get.

It's light entertainment for me. I enjoy watching it but don't take it seriously

Why not do a series on one car start to finish - and let's say a full but and bolt resto.

How about any of the cars in the classic car thread - pics of disowned/left to rot and die cars.

Clearly not a £ thing but instead the ins and outs of how you go about it.
Car SOS do sometimes do similar but it's one show with half the show giving it back and discovering the car and what happened to the poor individual who has rightly been selected.

What a novel idea. They could call it "Wheeler Dealers: A Car is Born".

Oh... wait...

Yep. But that series is very old hat so a bit with Mike picking up ruined XJ Series 2 Jags or something similar Ed China working his arse off on all parts of the car fabricating - aim either to concours or to get it into a nice runner which a petrolhead could commute in.

I think they would have to do it as well as their current thing, as that could be potentially ruinous for the current one which is apparently becoming a bigger thing in the US.

That and the fact that most people have very short attention spans and have to be repeatedly told what just happened before the break...

Unlike most of us that can probably remember what happened in each episode of project binky.

I'm surprised to make the first comment on today's WD with the Escort. One of the best episodes IMO.
Great TV.

Pretty sure those carbs on the finished car weren't on it at the start of the show!

And the exhaust manifold - particularly after Edd drew attention to the 'correct RS2000' one being fitted earlier in the program, plus the front struts looks very clean in the 'new wheels' piece towards the end.

No mention of under body protection.

Good build though.
