Line of Duty (BBC Police Drama)
Discussion
Yeah it was a bit slow and some o f the acting was a bit questionable to say the least.
But i'm sure it'll come good.
I just hope that they set an end point when we'll get a result.
I can't stand series that go on and on and on for ever usually getting worse. Set an end point that we can all work towards.
Now I can' remember clearly but in the last series wasn't there a young kid who was a bad lad passing of his police training? - someone refresh my memory!

I remember that now you've mentioned it, but I've lost track of whether it was a flashback. It did seem to be someone placed into the service who was already "bent", ready to work up the ranks.I can only really judge each series on its own merits. I know there's a lot of little nuggets that appear insignificant at the time just chucked into earlier episodes that later turn out to be pivotal, but I just don't remember it in that detail. So if this series is only any good because of references to previous ones, it's going to pass me by unfortunately.
I also didn't notice changing BMWs - I do pay attention to car-related things, but modern cars do tend to blur a bit for me.

Did anyone else pick up on the BMW change in the opening scenes. An E61 was used in one clip.
I think the explanation for the cars will be down to the filming being interrupted by Covid lockdown. I imagine they used hired cars and sent them back when filming was halted. When they started again they couldn't get the same cars back and had to make do with the closest match they could get. Edited by Deep Thought on Monday 22 March 10:04
If it's not that then the continuity department needs a kick up the backside.

Here's a Line of Duty drinking game that's almost as complicated as Line of Duty...

Yeah that was Ryan, the little gobste from season 1 on the pedal bike. Wonder if that'll continue on into this season. I initially thought he was the DS doing the interview with Kelly McDonald but I was wrong.Antony Moxey said:

Given the glut of similar style programmes over the years, we've not bothered with Line of Duty before and, given the quality of last night's episode - the acting, the storyline, the characterisations, the characters, the filming - we won't be bothering any further.
FFS. Have the BBC never watched anything like Spiral which hooks you in the first five minutes and makes you love and hate characters in equal measure as you understand them. This lot, if they were all swallowed by a sink hole, we just wouldn't care.
Total toot.
You don’t need to be hooked in the first five minutes - this is a programme that you can’t start watching at Series Seven, you have to have watched it from Series One Episode One otherwise you’re never going to get it. S1E1 hooked you, and then you stay throughout. It’s no surprise you didn’t enjoy it if this was your first ever episode.FFS. Terry, the man they had in custody, picks the storyline up quite neatly, but if you haven't seen the previous series, you won't know how significant the interview questions were about the flat where he lived and the missing domestic appliances
the freezer in Terry's flat had Jackie Laverty's body stashed in it for god knows how long, hence why there was a reference to the marks left on the ground about something big and heavy being there. 50 kilo's of frozen murder victim in a freezer will leave indentations on the lino. He also lived in flat 4F which in previous series made me wonder if H was a property, rather than a person.
Watch it on iplayer, I've found it helpful to rewatch it all over again. Last night there was a reference to Carl Banks and I can't remember where that name came up before.

Pretty dire opening , I thought all the acting was flat. Steve and Kate scene in the car...awful.
Poor casting for Macdonald in that role , very unconvincing as a DCI, she looked like she was reading her lines in a rehearsal.
Hope it improves.
Kelly Macdonald has always been pretty wooden but last night was really poor - she sounded like a primary schooler reading to her classmates. Poor casting for Macdonald in that role , very unconvincing as a DCI, she looked like she was reading her lines in a rehearsal.

She was interviewed in the Guardian Weekend magazine a few weeks back, she commented that when she was younger she would foolishly turn up for auditions having not read the script, try to wing it, then wonder why she didn't get the part. On the basis of last night's showing I'd say she's still following that approach but somehow managed tp wangle the role. It made Marcella look good!

My brother in law is met police firearms and has just ripped apart the firearms bits, not even remotely realistic, you would have thought you’d at least have someone consulting on those bits?
But did you know before BIL told you? The percentage of viewers in a position to know is very small, to most, it would be OK.Definitely wasn’t the best episode but still enjoyable. I wish they’d been a bit clearer about Kate from the beginning. I knew she wasn’t undercover when the DCI used her character’s real name so it was implied that she had left AC-12 but it puzzled me for longer than it should have.
Looking forward to seeing how this one develops though.
I’m convinced the thing with the 5 series was deliberate to wind us sad gits up , especially after people kept tweeting about the number plates last series. No way a show like this with so much attention to detail would cock that up imo.

A few newspapers have picked this up today but in reality, most people won't have noticed.Edited by Deep Thought on Monday 22 March 10:04
I was sat there thinking that it's highly unlikely that the police would have got M-Sport spec though - SE models tend to be more de rigueur
I noticed and was summarily told to shut up by the other half.
Definitely a slow burner compared to some previous series, hope it picks up the usual standard. Compared to the previous actors/actresses they've had playing the 'main characters' this season's seems like a bit of a down grade.

Some of the acting’s a bit iffy.
I thought that.Kelly Macdonald was awful. I have no idea how she has won various acting awards if that is her usual standard.
I thought a few others were terrible as well.
