They Sikh him here, they Sikh him there... biggrin

The woman in the pub, they were about to have to leave with nothing as she had nothing worth taking. Now her landlord has bailed her out to a tune of 1K, so she owes her that plus her rent that she couldn't afford.

That pub is about a 2 minute walk from where I live! I went in there just after I'd moved in (Feb 2017) and it was empty. The landlord and landlady were friendly enough but the pub itself is completely off the beaten track (it's on a little 'access only' street and you can't see it from the main road) and there are much nicer places to go in the town which is a 2 minute walk in the other direction. It desperately needed doing up as it was like stepping back into an eighties social club. For the landlord to ask £1600 per month for the place is a joke as I can well believe them only taking £30 most nights.

I now believe it's closed and is about to be made into flats, but that's just what I've heard on the local facebook page which had a thread about the show last night. I might take a walk up there tonight to have a look myself.

I was surprised when the landlord coughed up. She must have known the place was a money pit. She's never going to get that back. The end credits mentioned that the debtor had maintained the agreement of £100 per month, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear her landlord was paying that.

Now this latest post has told us a bit about the pub, you wonder why on earth they took it on. Dreamers.

The same thought went through my head too. I'd have bailed out if I had been told it would cost me 1600 quid a month. To take on a pub like that on the outskirts of a small town where there are a good 20/25 bars and pubs within walking distance is madness. They never really advertised the place with anything more than a wooden A-board at the bottom of the street saying 'Pub this way' with an arrow and 'happy hour blah blah'.

I find it slightly comical that on saying goodby to the debtor they say "see you later". biggrin

Couple with a weekly income of £114 have agreed to a weekly repayment of £50. Debtor even told the bailiffs the agreement would probably not be maintained. What a waste of time - why bother? The guy will almost certainly not get a job anywhere, what with the custodial sentence hanging over him.

The finance company owed the money would be better off just writing off the debt.

I'd imagine it will be written off soon after none-payment begins.

What's with this landlord not having a credit/debit card?

114 a week and giving away 50 to them. Unlikely to keep payments up.

Just watching a special on 5Star. Haringey Council, what a set of clowns. Could call them something else beginning with C. Woman and child evicted, 8 pm at night, mobile phone charger is plugged into house simply to keep it working, council claims she is not homeless as phone is still in house, so Paul Bohill arguing her case with council sends her outside. Council then say they need to talk to woman so she has to come back in house.

Eventually recovery agents paid for her overnight in a hotel. Haringey Council, useless pricks, words otherwise fail me.

It's a vicious circle started by the council, they actually tell the tenant to stay put in the house until they are physically evicted, if the tenant leaves before that time they are classed as making themselves homeless so the council wont help!

The case being televised at the moment is odd. Some guy orders new doors and has never paid for them, and has no money. Why didn't he arrange finance for the doors?

Having paid over half the debt, then the bailiffs didn't offer an arrangement for the balance even though the guy is in work, but added to the total bill by arranging for his van to be taken away, which would prevent him from working. None of it made sense. Seemed to be a lack of common sense by everyone all round.

Yep, thought much the same. Increasing the sum by something like £600 just for arranging a tow vehicle that was not actually needed is a tad much too.

Nice to see the woman with the unpaid parking fines had the judgement set aside and got her money back.

Probably the best thing for all parties concerned. She simply didn't have the money to pay. Still makes me wonder how people incur these fines and then ignore letters for so long that the debt becomes massive - surely if she had attended an earlier county court she could have explained her financial position and they could have arranged for payment in stages. The total would have been so much less.

The programme is a real eye-opener. Some people just don't help themselves by acting like it hasn't happened.
