There are other survival shows, drop survivalists in middle of nowhere. On one show they are even naked.
Do you know, I've just had a dejavu. I'm sure I posted the same thing last year and somebody told me about the Ed Stafford programmes which are infinitely betternicanary said:

Tough ep this one, with all the fainting.
Hmm....that lil cayman...bit docile...drugged? It didn't exactly spring to life when they tried to noose it...recall the first series? I'm sure there was a real wild one in it.

So in this lil after show programme, they show them all, and there's a beautiful girl with long brown hair there I don't even recognise.
I think you're talking about Kaggy. She has a superb figure - she's the one with the sequined blue bikini. People don't look so hot when they're starving and dehydrated and having the sts every day.nicanary said:

When we were kids we were quite adept at knocking up a decent bow and arrows with some sticks and twine. Surprised no one tried that, especially for the turkeys.
I hope it wasn't Jager's kid's or missus that died. It was not long after we see pictures of them and how much he missed them, when he got the bad news and was taken off the island.

I watched all these episodes and still can't believe that most of the people did virtually nothing all the time, but then moaned about not having any food. Why weren't they out most of the day searching for food ? Why were they spending so much time just sunbathing when they had so much they clearly needed to do ? Why do people enrol for the programme without any apparent knowledge of basic survival ?.
From the beginning, there really was only the old chap with any clear idea of what to do. Virtually all the youngsters were treating it as a skive, or holiday.

Remember that six weeks' worth of footage has been edited into six episodes whilst trying to assemble some sort of storyline. Inevitably, there are continuity issues and footage of them not doing very much - I guess the cameramen/women are more inclined to take their equipment with them on short journeys whilst less so foraging and creating a documentary at the same time. I agree with your point re basic survival knowledge. However, I assume that they receive basic training to some degree. They still have to have the inclination to act on it though and, despite all the hunger pains and dehydration, the tenacity to do so. What surprised me more this year was the lack of initiative - did we ever see anyone making a net (like last year - which was 'found' by the way)? Why did it take the safety team intervening to make a proper shelter and to elevated beds? These seem basic principles. That being said, it makes better telly for us to see people bumble their way through it I guess. Or, at least, that's what the production company think we'd like to see. Personally, I'd like to see them all flourish and make a proper go of it, not be on the edge of starvation for six weeks.
Re your last point (I think you're referring to Frank), he seemed to take the initiative at the beginning but then fade into the background. We didn't really hear from him for 2-3 episodes. Could have been the editing though. On that point, my wife and I commented (like a few posters here) on some of the people that we've heard next to nothing (and sometimes nothing) from e.g. the black guy with the long dark hair and the brunette camerawomen - where have they been?!
I have enjoyed the series though, probably the weakest so far though.

Yeah I'd agree the weakest one so far, what would you prefer the set up be for next series? I agree with your point re basic survival knowledge. I think I'd like to see perhaps white collar professionals/ typical city folk who haven't ever had to get their hands dirty on one island vs blue collar workers/ tradesmen with hands on skills.
Brains vs brawn perhaps In a simplified sense
