As above, that's the one and only time they've had to do and given the Bloke's story how could you say no?

In fairness to this particular case, the man had no real connection to that shell, it wasn't a car he'd driven as a younger man or anything like that, I don't think it ever ran during his ownership - he wanted to restore a 500 for his wife, the connection was to an old reg plate, which they used.
Oh I completely agree. But they have done it before before - can't remember what it was though.

Saw the Mercedes 230SL programme last night. A real shed after it was dipped, and a pity that they zoomed through the bodywork rebuild after showing us how bad it was. Even showing the section where they cut the back end off could have had a bit of time about setting reference points to make sure it went back in the right place. Looked lovely when it was done. A cynic might wonder whether the other SL shell that formed part of Tim's ridiculous play-acting segment was involved elsewhere.

Did seem rather convenient that there was another around. Still a massive amount of work though, fair play to them for continuing with it.

There's a You Tube 'extra' that shows the months of work they put into rebuilding the car. It wasn't re-shelled, but there wasn't much left of the original

I've vague idea I've seen something on Youtube a while ago, probably when it was first shown on non-terrestrial TV. It did look terrible, I'm just (as always) disappointed that we didn't get a bit more of a view of them repairing. After all, they spent enough time over-acting about how it was the worst car they'd ever ever done, pretending to storm off and so on.

That was thoroughly entertaining. It should have been in the programme. There was some brilliant fabrication. 1357 hrs.

I've always wondered whether the recipients' relatives/friends paid the restoration costs or contributed. How much would they have been looking at for this one? So perhaps that's answered me.

Good work. As they said: lots of measurement.

They reckoned it 500 hours fab just for the shell. Work that at £60 an hour.

"The worst I have EVER seen" .....said Fuzz.

The FIAT 500 that opened this series wasn't great either, only car they've ever reshelled.

Bit disappointed as the Merc episode has been shown before. Still a good watch second time around though.

I think they re-shelled an Anglia in series 1.

I can only think they would have reshelled this as well but they can't be easy to get hold of.

I suspect the Fiat was the worst for just dissolving away to a frilly cobweb of rust, whereas the Merc was a patchwork quilt of pigeon poo awfulness.

They have all been on before but this is the first free to air showing of the series.

Must have missed the merc one first time round. What a result in the end.

I do like car SOS. Probably my favourite of the do-um-up shows.

That Mercedes was bonkers.

If you say £50 p/h that is £60k + for the resto, he is one lucky guy with what that car is worth.

I do like car sos but seems to have lost it's way a little with the last few resto's

Wrong description tonight of the 5 Turbo as a "GT turbo Maxi"

The mid engine version never used GT in the name and the car on screen didn't look like a Maxi either.
