In other news , I saw that Ken (or rather Bill Roache ) turned 87 this week . Not doing bad is he , and surely nobody in a soap , anywhere , has enjoyed such an unbroken run. Possibly Peggy in the Archers?

I believe Corrie is the longest-running soap in the world, and Bill has been a constant since the first episode. Quite remarkable really. Especially his hair.

I suppose he's considered the problem of being typecast on a few occasions, but it's a bit late now. Plus he's on a 6-figure salary (so's Rita) much to the annoyance apparently of the younger cast members.

Will knowledge of Peter's lapse bring Carla out of the woodwork?
