I'm surprised that anyone thought Gold Rush was anything other than the Todd Hoffman show.

If he is the producer and has so much sway, why does he make himself like an utterly clueless waste of space?

IMDB has a comprehensive list of people associated with making the show and Todd doesn't feature. He only shows as a character. He also isn't listed as a member of RAW productions.

However, the idea for the to show was clearly his, and he is probably paid more for being on the show than Parker probably makes in operating profit from his mining.....

He clearly is involved with the production, and the show is a ratings winner accross the states and sold world wide. I would expect he makes a fee for the show but probably takes a cut in sales too.....

Clearly a gifted businessmen, if not prospector.

If he does country singing with a god bothering vibe, it's likely he'll be a hit over in the States as a singer too...

Which just goes to show, you don't need talent or skill to live the American Dream.

In fairness he's not a bad singer. I think there was a link posted earlier in the thread and it's certainly more a case of he really should give up the day job.

Yes I posted that. Quite passable. It was the Simon and garfunkle song covered in the style of Disturbed I think?

Another season over. Todd Hoffmans last episode was a real embarrassment. Losing that bet by miles, giving away almost his entire seasons profit to Parker.

Interesting view of the area of some of the areas where they strip the land. I'm guessing it's hoping to take tears to recover.

Surely Todd will give up to hand over to his son hunter , promote the kids tv career to rival parkers next season , maybe drag another tv season out of it then they'll all diversify into the white water type dredging to keep it mildly interesting to the tv companies ? Then Dave Turin will come back with his own crew and show them how to mine gold but it will be so boring the series will fold ?

A couple of years ago there was a special showing what happens once they've finished mining - you'd be amazed. All the overburden gets spread back out over the land, and within a couple of years you'd not know they'd mined there.

Freddie Dodge presented it, and was clearly passionate about it.

I'd be interested to see that. Who is on the hook to fund and carry out this work? because we have never seen them reference work done to make good previous workings on the show itself. is it the mine claim owners, or the local government?

I'm not an environmentalist but it would be nice to see the wilderness protected. Its hard to understand the vastness of the countryside up there, and the remoteness, the lack of access and the lack of anything actually being there. When I was in the RAF about 20 years ago I undertook some work to capture the topographical data of that part of the world, down to 1:25,000 scale. map after map showing nothing but undeveloped country. Maybe a whole map with one rangers hut on it, nothing else. No roads, not powerlines, no settlements.

They mentioned it this year for the first time. When Parker finished his first cut, they said it would be filled in by the other staff (non tv ones I guess)

Done by the miners, iirc it's a condition of the mining licence.

The miners tend to be from the area - or at least, have an affinity for the local environment. They don't want to destroy it either.

Is this a recent thing as they also showed Parker or perhaps Tony driving past massive piles of dredge tailings in the tell tale shape on the last episode. If you zoom in to Dawson City on google maps you can see huge areas that have been dredged. Is Tony the only person currently operating a dredge in the area? I guess these are historic and the old timers weren't as keen to cover over there works.

I'd imagine that when the dredgers were last working (1950s?) no one gave a toss...

It was a condition of gaining a mining permit that the mining company prove they had sufficient funds to clean up after themselves. Good old Donald Trump i s removing that requirement as we speak.

This was just an EPA proposal, made in December 2016.

Also the Yukon, where the show is predominantly located, is in Canada.

Dustin and Fred finished the season on a mighty 2.5 ounces, but they are coming back for another season.

2.5 ounces?! At a rough calculation that is about 20 minutes worth of production at the Schnabel mine. I'm glad I didn't invest much time in that series then. Parker's dog picks up more than that with his paws. I guess that shows just how much money the producers pump into a show if they can make that farce profitable for the people concerned.
