I watched the first episode of Season 4 this evening. Just as good as any of the others, as expected. Loved Mikes little security breach bit.

Can't wait for next weeks episode.

Oh and I started this thread so it's mine. To anyone who's name calling over spoilers. Grow up. I agree that if you've clicked on the thread then you've come in here to discuss the show and what has happened in the show. If you haven't watched the latest episode then don't click on the thread until you have. It's pretty simple!

It was a polite request but there's always someone who's Dad is bigger than the next bloke's, eh? The "fk you" culture is alive and well known on here, so crack on. You fire away and get your jollies ruining it for others, because that's ever so big & clever. And you secretly get off on that, don't you.
What are you going to post about or expect to read in this thread if it doesn't contain discussion of shows which are already available for you to watch?

I thought it was a great opener. It's the first real movement towards the Breaking Bad world and possibly for that reason, despite moving at the same pace as previous seasons, it felt more gripping.

I thought the most telling transformation to Saul was right at the end when he started whistling after realising that Howard is happy to accept the blame for Chuck's death.

Me too.

I love the "Mike plans & does a thing" segments in the show, I'd probably quite happily watch a whole show of it. Like when he was ostensibly helping Hayley create a sprinkler from a hose only for it to turn out to be a stinger smile

I loved the fact that his Madrigal tour turned out to be him just deciding to do the job they were paying him for whether he was there or not. I thought he was trying to uncover their operation, but no - he was just picking holes in the security.. Brilliant smile

Best thing on TV at the moment.

This also reveals more about Mike's character - he made the mistake of making a half measure earlier in his life to his cost and making up for that mistake cost him his career in the police. He learnt his lesson and now no longer makes half measures - he wants to ensure the company laundering his money is 100% secure.

Agreed. It's gatekeeping, pure and simple.

Anyone know how long after the end of BB the black and white stuff is?

Don't know.

Originally I thought 'Gene' was in witness protection, but when he was so scared in the hospital when his social security number wasn't recognised, I now think he's on the run using a stolen or invented identity.

Someone in the formal witness protection programme would have a gold-plated social security number and 'genuine' verifiable identity, so wouldn't be worried about that sort of hiccup like 'Gene' was.

He thought his scam had been found.

They discuss this briefly in the S4E01 podcast. Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould said they didn't even know if it was before or after Walt died.

I hadn't considered the possibility it could be before Walt died.

He looks very settled into his routine in the Cinnabon job. I'd guessed it was at least a year or more after the final events of BB.

He was "disappeared" by the the Robert Forster character - who also took Walt to the mountain log cabin.

I get the impression that Gene was 3-4 years post Breaking Bad. I only say that because his life looks relatively settled with a casuality about his job, apartment and general demeanor. He doesn't come across as someone settling into a new environment.

I could be totally wrong but that's what it feels like to me.

Agreed.

Someone somewhere probably thinks there's legs in a Gene story. Does he have the discipline to keep being humdrum and being Gene or will he slip?

For me, let BCS build towards BB and leave it there, it's been great..

I have this strong feeling that Gene will commit suicide in the finale of BCS.

It was near the end of Breaking Bad when Saul had to use his contact for making people "disappear" to disappear himself. In BB, is was established that "Gene"s" Nebraska driving licence is a forgery. Also, I suspect he's using a stolen Social Security Number in order to work and pay taxes, in much the same way that illegal immigrants working in the United States do.

As for the timeline, we seem to be caching up with "Gene" at least a few years after the events in BB. Gene is visibly older, with thinning hair and he moves about like an older man typically does. Despite time moving on, he takes great pains to avoid contact with the police and keeps a very low profile. When leaving the hospital in the taxi, Jimmy/Saul/Gene notices the Albuquerque Isotopes (Albuquerque's Minor League Baseball team) air freshener hanging from the taxi's rear-view mirror. Fearing the taxi driver may be from Albuquerque and that the driver may possibly recognise Saul from his many TV adverts there, Jimmy/Saul/Gene asks the driver to stop and quickly walks away from the cab, looking over his shoulder the whole time. He is clearly still a man on the run.

He also makes reference to running a Cinnabon in Breaking Bad
