Better Call Saul - Prequel to Breaking Bad

BCS season 5 was commissioned not long ago, I'm sure Vince Gilligan had quite a bit of notice of it, so the team doesn't have to engineer Jimmy into Saul any time soon. Bearing in mind we've already seen plenty of Saul in Breaking Bad I can't imagine he would go "full Saul" on BCS any time soon.
Also they could potentially (sensationally) introduce WW into BCS and have some events run in parallel... or have the last ever episode of BCS as WW coming into visit... unless BC has already poo-poo'd that idea.Oooh. One quick google later:

EW posed this question to Cranston and Paul — as well as Gilligan, who created Breaking Bad — when the cast reunited to celebrate the 10th anniversary for this week’s cover story. “My attitude towards it is the same I had from when Better Call Saul first started,” Paul says. “If Vince decided to put Jesse in Better Call Saul, it’s going to be for a reason, and that reason’s going to be very satisfying for me. I trust in Vince. I don’t think he would just do that to satisfy the fans. It would have a purpose, and whether or not he decides to find that purpose or searches for the purpose, I don’t know. But if he does find that purpose, I’m happy to jump on board.”
Cranston seems to be on that same page of possibility. “If he asked, I would just say yes,” says the actor, who notes that he has a “couple of ideas” that he will pitch to Gilligan and Saul co-creator Peter Gould. “[Vince] takes such meticulous care of his characters and the story, and he changed our lives. ‘Yes’ is the answer. Even if it’s just a brush-by. A quick little something. We’ve come to know people who we’ve seen before but we don’t know that we’ve seen them before, because we were in the store and we just passed by them. Or we might even have a word or two. ‘Oh no, please go ahead.’ ‘Thank you for holding the door.’ And then five years later, you would never remember that. So something as minuscule as that could be very interesting in the fabric of the whole thing.” He adds: “We have those kind of encounters every day, and I think that would be fun for the audience — and the most honest.”

The thing with BCS is that it isn't and can't be standalone. You know exactly where it's going to end up.
The show is all about the journey to get to that point.
Jesse popping up might make some sense as he is part of that world and already knows the 'criminal' lawyer. Walt could only ever be a bit of background colour.
I can see it ending with them rattling through the events of Breaking Bad, it all going wrong, skip to the present and the situation with Saul hiding getting resolved one way or another. They always start seasons with the Cinnabon and they're sure to bookend it by ending there.

You could see Walt teaching Jesse and being overly harsh or dismissive with him, and how Jesse failing in class contributed to him ending up in the world of Krazy-8 and his cousin, etc. In that way Walt could've indirectly set the ball rolling in terms of Jesse's trajectory, six degrees of separation, etc.
That would feel pretty organic to me. Walt just being seen on screen holding the door open for one of the BCS characters completely randomly would be jarring and pure fan service.

I like its excruciating nature, I am glad it wasnt a few episodes culminating in a big chorus line musical number with Walt etc that then ends with the Breaking bad opening scene.
I reckon Jesse or Walt will nip into C and C mobile for a "Burner phone", or you just see them from the back.
They cant drag it out too long as Jonathan Banks is already craggier than the Things Ballbag, Bob Odenkirk is doing well maintaining a fairly youthful look but he is 55.

My memory is failing me:
Do we know for sure that the Cinnabon scenes are post-BB, or could they be post-BCS but pre-BB?
We know they're post BB because he had the video tapes of his BCS TV adverts. It wouldn't make sense that he could get that down and up again between BCS and BB.Do we know for sure that the Cinnabon scenes are post-BB, or could they be post-BCS but pre-BB?

According to the timeline blog posts, the Incorporation date of the city he's in place it 50 years ahead, obviously this isn't factually correct, but, along with this very thin hair, gives the impression its many many years post BBDo we know for sure that the Cinnabon scenes are post-BB, or could they be post-BCS but pre-BB?

“If I'm lucky, a month from now, best-case scenario, I'm managing a Cinnabon in Omaha” Do we know for sure that the Cinnabon scenes are post-BB, or could they be post-BCS but pre-BB?
It could be before the actual end of BB as that's months later but for all intents they're set afterwards.

BCS is a great show if you're invested in the Breaking Bad universe, but it is definitely an acquired taste I think.
I like to think that I like slow burning shows, and certainly compared to stuff where everything is wrapped up in one episode it is a revelation, but there is certainly something to be said that it is self-indulgent, and erring on the side of fan service in places. There have been shots in the show that would have no obvious resonance to anyone who hasn't watched Breaking Bad (I'm thinking of the Los Pollos reveal, for one).

I think we are going to see him merge into Saul this season. They have laid the foundations now and he's starting to get into dodgy dealings. In my opinion, it would be pretty lame of them to not bring out Saul on a show called better call Saul. The fan base is all eagerly awaiting the transition.
I'm enjoying this season so far.

I'm actually enjoying BCS more than BB, which is saying something. Then again, they could have a spin-off show called 'Mike checks warehouses' where Mike just wanders around warehouses for an hour and I'd find that engaging.
it reminds me of the slow episodes at the start of BB where the foundations are being made, which is not bad thingNot as explosive as BB but enjoying it a lot nonetheless
Plus watching one episode a week rather than binging is pleasingly old school (albeit via Netflix)

the idea of a classroom scene with Walt and Jesse seems absurd, have you seen how old Aaron Paul looks now? That would feel pretty organic to me. Walt just being seen on screen holding the door open for one of the BCS characters completely randomly would be jarring and pure fan service.
