I don't think there was anything wrong with the fryer. He was just keeping a witness to prove he was innocently in his legit office when a phone call was made to him. Just thinking out loud.
Yep that was my thinking, he’s done this before in BB (remember the bit in the hospital when Mike assassinated one of the cartel brothers, the one who lost his legs when Hank reversed into him).

Wasn't watching too carefully at the end, too many distractions. After he'd been beaten up I just assumed Mike was back at home, but Mrs wondered if he was somewhere else.

Also not sure why the deliberate antagonising of the rabble to get into a fight, unless he's so angry he needs an excuse for a ruck.

Definitely didn't appear to be back at home - looked like he was in some kind of courtyard within a compound?

My wild guess is that Mike was rescued by Fring, and moved to a finca somewhere. I am probably miles off though

I'd suspect this also. As for why he wanted the fight, its obvious he's suffering PTSD / Guilt over getting his son killed for him being a dirty cop, and he's not (yet) come to terms with it.

I thought it might be to do with the situation with his granddaughter, going for the sympathy angle.

That would be my guess. Killing Werner has obviously affected Mike and it’s likely that Fring was keeping a close eye on him.

He doesn't want to fight. He wanted, and got, a hiding. Assuage the guilt?

I know a guy just like that. Given the choice between saying nothing or constructing an outrageous lie, he'll always go for the lie.
