You'll need more than a month (unless you're waiting to the end and then binge).

First two on 19th April then five episodes released weekly. Then a gap and the last six weekly from 12th July.

Question - my wife refuses to watch breaking bad. (I know, but at this point she’s entrenched). Do you think BCS is (as) viable to watch as a stand-alone series? I loved it, probably more than BB, but I can’t decide whether I would love it having not watched BB…

There is little cross-over, pragmatically speaking only the two characters really and you don't need to know anything about BB to enjoy BCS. They're very different in tone as well.

I'd probably say no. We both loved BB and BCS but I know many who loved BB who didn't get away with the slower pacing of BCS. It can be enjoyed stand alone although it's fun to catch the crossovers on characters and stories but I suspect if she's not into the idea of BB then BCS might go over her head.

I would also imagine it’s a different experience watching the series if you’re not lusting over Kim. (A solid 90% of the value of the series for me)

I'm hoping we'll find out what happened to Kim between BCS and BB.

hehe

I cannot disagree.

BCS works fine as a stand-alone in my opinion, I prefer it to BB personally.

Have a word with her!

If she refuses to watch BB, why on earth would she want to watch BCS?

What are her reasons for not wanting to watch it?

I'd say - yes - it stands alone pretty well.

I have a friend that 'just won't watch BB' too.. no idea why other than it being 'so big' in a similar way that he won't watch Sopranos.

These great box sets do require quite an investing of your time, and is usually what stops me starting a new one. But once you've started one.....you're hooked.

Usual perfectly reasonable women perspective stuff — eg “I don’t like the look of the cover photos” then (later) “urgh is that the one you keep telling me I should watch” followed by “I’m not watching it because you keep going on about it”

You seem to be mistakenly assuming that logic is involved… I know she would love BB if she watched it. She won’t. But maybe she would watch BCS and enjoy that. And then maybe enjoy BB too.

Fair enough. My Mrs won't watch Band of Brothers, but will watch Politics Live, even though the latter is much more of a blood bath.

Odd.

Personally I’d say if you haven’t seen BB then avoid BCS. I’ve only gone through BCS because I was hoping for more of the BB Saul. It is just about getting there now and about to end. I think the incredibly long and slow backstory would be too tedious and pointless if you were not constantly waiting for that thing that triggers the emergence of BB Saul.

Although I'd argue that the majority of subjects / stories / relationships and characters in BCS are very different to those in BB (the cross over is pretty minimal). BCS is alot more 'L.A confidential / L.A Law' as opposed to BB being more comparable to Ozark / Sopranos content.
