Better Call Saul - Prequel to Breaking Bad
Discussion
I was very late to the Netlfix party and my first binge watch based on all the recommendations was BB. I thought it was excellent. I then started BCS, didn't get into it straight away and in fact paused watching on episode 3 for about 2 months. I revisited, again after recommendations to stick with it, and I have to say it's one of the best series I think I have ever watched. You get so involved in the characters, the script is brilliant, the acting was amazing (Bob and Jonathan superb, Rhea simply fantastic), I have recommended it to others since, some with success, others not so much. It's all emotive but for me, loved it.
Finally catching up on the final series of BCS. Bit strange that on episode 10 & 11 it seems to jump forwards to a timeline after Breaking Bad. Still to watch 12 & 13 but if the trend continues then it's a shame that the pre BB story ended abruptly with Kim leaving Jimmy. I kind of wanted the story to continue and merge with BB. But as I say, I still have 2 episodes left.
Also, in episode 11 which is called 'Breaking Bad' we see Saul tied up in the back of Walters RV, and Saul later refers to Lalo Salamanca in the present tense, whereas Lalo had already been killed long before then.

Are you me? I just watched 10 & 11 last night and was thinking exactly the same thing. I knew these last 4 episodes crossed timelines with BB but they aren't being told in the way I thought they would. Interested to see how it turns out, but yeah I agree with Kim just suddenly disappearing seems like a rushed decision, but I guess that does happen in real life sometimes too. I'm still curious about the flash forward to the BB era in the RV, where Jessie asks Saul who Lalo is. Seeing as Lalo was killed during the Better Call Saul era I cant figure out why Lalo is being mentioned?

The opening scene with the RV is a replay of BB Season 2 Episode 8 (fittingly called Better Call Saul) with some new bits. Ignacio and Lalo were mentioned in that so 13 years before BCS season 6 was aired.
That is the only time in BB that they are mentioned and it's never explained who they are.
You won't be disappointed with episodes 12 and 13 IMO. I thought it was a great finish.

I think they are implying the timespan between Lalo and him meeting Walter and Jesse is pretty small, small enough for Saul to still be traumatised by it all. Either that or Lalo has lived rent free in his head for years and he’s not had anything that traumatic to trigger that reaction. parabolica said:

Timeline - wise, BCS Season 5 is set May 2004 - Feb 2005, BB season 2 is set Oct 2008 to Feb 2009

Finally watched the last episode. Such a brilliant series and maybe even better than Breaking Bad.
My only criticism is the story pre BB ends abruptly when Kim leaves Saul. From there it jumps straight to the post BB story line, which itself is brilliant, however I wanted the pre BB story to blend into BB a little better than it did.
Sad that the whole BCS & BB is now over.

I would rather it came to a stop than being milked to death until everyone hates it.My only criticism is the story pre BB ends abruptly when Kim leaves Saul. Look at The Walking Dead, dragged the arse out of it including the spin off series.

Agreed. I think what I meant was the sadness of reaching the end of something brilliant. Whilst ever you’re watching you know you have at least a few more episodes left, but when it ends it’s sad. Look at The Walking Dead, dragged the arse out of it including the spin off series.
I’m surmising that Saul took it all on the chin and took 86 years to save Kim.
