Better Call Saul - Prequel to Breaking Bad
Discussion
it is slow paced, but I think the filmography is pretty good, the shots and set pieces really lift it up from other shows. O.k the story is dragged out and usually the good stuff happens later in the series, but the show really doesn't compare to anything else on TV, it still feels fresh.
If the story can continue in a direction that can still surprise, knowing the information we know in BB.

It's slower than Breaking Bad but it moves at a consistent rate. They're all such fantastic characters and I could happily watch them for hours. Think about how much time you've watched Mike doing something without him uttering a word or Chuck's tightrope between brilliance and insanity - excellent stuff.
I can't wait for Gus to reappear.

Very slow episode but enjoyable. I loved the scene of Mike hightailing it away and the background thunderstorm building. Then the searching of the car in the junk yard. All very good.
Saul's part in the episode was quite minor, other than the starting sequence really.
Overall I really enjoyed the episode and it's slower pace was quite good to allow to mental catch up on what happened in S2 (not seen since it aired).
The play with the tracker was very good

My main thought from s3e1 is that I fell I'd rather be watching a show centered around Mike and what he's getting up to. Saul's part in the episode was quite minor, other than the starting sequence really.

It is slow, but that gives them more time to flesh the characters out. There is also a slight, slow but steady ramping up on tension.
I like it too , but when I read the massive, gushing out pouring of love for series 3 opener on IMDB I got a whiff of Emperor’s New Clothes about it, yes you get the characters in long hand, but lets not forget these are established characters from Breaking Bad, they weren’t background players either, they were a big part of it.It is slow, but that gives them more time to flesh the characters out. Frankly for me the first series, all 10 hours of it was long enough to flesh out the main players, we know everything we need to know about them it's not a massive cast. Series 2 promised to actually get the story started, but for me it was another 10 hours of tease. Would anyone care to guess how much screen time has passed these last 3 years in real time? A month, two?
Maybe the fact it’s made by AMC tells us all we need to know – they make The Walking Dead too – another good programme but only seems to bother with plot on the last episode of a series.

I think the first episode was great. People saying it was slow are right but that's fine with me. I enjoy the way the story is told and love the cinematography: the long shots of the railway yard where Mike met the vet were really atmospheric.
Homeland started off in a similar way and that's one of my favourite shows. Actually a few similarities between Homeland and Saul with the Carrie/Quinn and Saul/Mike story splits. In both cases it's possible that the supporting character is the most interesting.
