Been in love with the Cerbera since way back when the Clarkson video shootout showed it decimating a load of other fast stuff.
Great video Harry, thank you.
Same and I've watched that Clarkson video loads of times. Great video Harry, thank you.
I've just watched the video as well and I really enjoyed it thanks Harry. You looked like you really enjoyed driving it too.

Looking at the classifieds after viewing the video I regard these as offering a huge amount of bang per buck
It's one of TVRs USPs.The only thing to be aware of though is that the relatively low purchase price is merely the cost of entry. Unless doing a lot of work yourself TVRs can, and usually will, need regular financial injections to keep on top of everything. I've got the t-shirt!
Our Tuscan has bills in the history file going back to 2004 totalling in excess of £25k, which isn't too bad when averaged out, but probably higher than some would expect in relation to the value of the car.

The bang for buck and the sense of occasion that they offer is tremendous though I reckon. Mine was a royal pain in the backside to live with, but I still can't help but look back very fondly on it though. One of the other great things about owning a TVR is all the lovely people you meet through the TVRCC etc.
I had a 4.5 Cerbera and I think the comments about the noise of the engine are probably based on Harry's video which IMO doesn't really carry across the sheer volume that the AJP engine assaults you with. It's fking loud. Well, mine was, as were all of the others I test drove when looking for mine.
There's a lot to love about them - in particular the sheer terror driving one for the first time evokes. It's not a quick car to acclimatise to - in fact it probably took me 3 months before I was comfortable hurling it into wide open bends at the limit of its tyres in the dry. I don't think I ever really trusted it enough to do similar in the wet.
But each time I drove it, it was an occasion. Mine needed a lot doing to it and I just didn't have time for a project car so I sold it on after 18 months. I'm not sure I'd have another, although if I could pick one up as well-sorted as that one in Harry's video, I might be tempted. One like that will be expensive now though.

I'm not 100% sure but the one in the video looked to still have the standard exhaust on it. I had a factory sports exhaust on mine and it seemed louder and it popped and banged a lot more than the one in the video. Noise doesn't always come across all that great in videos though and stuff always seems to sound better in person I think. It is a very mechanical engine to use and you feel everything about it in the cabin I reckon. I always lowered the windows a bit so I could hear everything that bit more too. Harry's video has definitely made me really miss mine for sure.
I watched this last night and thought it was superb - one of Harry's best. I've always loved the Cerbera and had one on my list to consider recently when purchasing my long-awaited totally impractical weekend car with some of the inheritance money from my mother, who died last year. However, given that Mrs D.R. isn't really a fan, the tales of terrifying repair bills that I keep reading (I already have a Range Rover L322 - I don't need another potential source...) and the fact that mum came from Westbury, meant I opted for a Marcos LM400 instead!
As to the noise, I'm sure I've mentioned it before on here but i first encountered a 4.2V8 Cerbera when doing a Christmas charity collection on the Itchen Toll Bridge in Southampton years ago. I thought it was stunning but, as a committed Rover V8 fan, I was disappointed with the noise as it pulled up - it sounded like a bucket of bolts being rattled at idle.
However the driver saw me ogling it and very kindly nailed it away from the toll booth and over the bridge. The utterly wonderful, howling scream it made as he gunned it away went into my ear, straight down to my groin and made it all tingly. It's something I've never forgotten!

It is a shame that there is no longer the likes of TVR making car any more.
Also, I put the 43k purchase price in 1996 into the BoE inflation calculator and it suggest a current equivalent of 85k, which gives some context to the 'cheapness' of the glory days of TVR.
Yeah, not cheap in absolute terms - but in comparison with the competition, hugely so. As evidenced by the sorts of cars they competed with now being £150k+. Also, I put the 43k purchase price in 1996 into the BoE inflation calculator and it suggest a current equivalent of 85k, which gives some context to the 'cheapness' of the glory days of TVR.

How much was a 911 Turbo in 1996?Also, I put the 43k purchase price in 1996 into the BoE inflation calculator and it suggest a current equivalent of 85k, which gives some context to the 'cheapness' of the glory days of TVR.

My Mrs absolutely hated mine with a passion! I will always remember us moving from Nottinghamshire to Berkshire and the Cerb was in the garage and the night before she said "it will definitely start for you tomorrow won't it?" I said "yes of course it will"...guess what...it didn't! Bear in mind that I'd just recently been without it for 9 months while the engine was rebuilt/new clutch fitted etc. So the car ended up on the back of a trailer back to Str8six because the starter motor had packed up! I was gutted to be fair because I was really looking forward to driving it down to Berkshire.
The thing with the Cerbera is you either need lots of money or be handy with the spanners(I didn't have either of those sadly), but what I did have was a good sense of humour though, because otherwise they will absolutely drive you insane for sure!
On the right day and at the right time though the Cerbera certainly takes some beating I reckon(if you can actually get it to start of course!).
