Thinking that having 70% of the car's length ahead of the windscreen would be cool was when MB's 'supercar' design went down the stter, IMO.Mercedes SLR McLaren 'MSO' 1000 mile road-trip special

£56k for paint and £46k for an interior retrim :0
But the suspension and aero bits are not pricey at all, I think, especially with labour included. Seven grand for suspension and steering is almost a bargain... given that a set of KW coilovers for the SLS AMG is 5k. Wheels not bad either as a set of custom HREs surely are not any more cheaper than that. The sound of the car is proper thunder noise. Good lord
I just watched the SLR vid. The road trip format is really good. It’s quite enjoyable following you on your adventures. That colour is stunning on the car. It suits it really well.
Didn’t realise there were more then 2000 built. I always assumed their numbers were between the Enzo and Carrera GT. You learn something new everyday. Thank you.

I never really liked these, but I can see the appeal from that video. All that money on a retrim and it still has the ugly slab of silver in the middle of the dash, though.
I did chuckle at 'Flash' Harry splashing out an extra quid for his wife to go as a separate foot passenger on the ferry.

It looks a lovely bit of kit (esp in that colour) but I'm not sure what the overall point of the upgrades were. I'm not really clued up in what it's place in the market when new was compared to the two other cars it was compared to in the video (Carrera GT and Zonda) but my impression was that it's a fair bit more 'long journey' user friendly that those.
If I were an owner and looking to spend a huge wodge of cash on the interior particularly then I'd be looking for that long journey user friendliness to have been included as part of of the package by bringing it up to date with current expectations by intergration of a Sat Nav/Blue tooth etc. If you are spending £40k plus on the interior anyway then that would be the right time to do it with a Manufacturer led install.

If you want a 'modern' GT car, then I'd agree. But I'd also want radar cruise, speed limiter, parking camera/sensors and the like.If I were an owner and looking to spend a huge wodge of cash on the interior particularly then I'd be looking for that long journey user friendliness to have been included as part of of the package by bringing it up to date with current expectations by intergration of a Sat Nav/Blue tooth etc. If you are spending £40k plus on the interior anyway then that would be the right time to do it with a Manufacturer led install.
If you want a 'classic' GT car, then you drive it differently, and expect different things from it. A phone will give you Satnav and stuff.
It seems to me that the SLR falls neither into the modern nor the classic camp, and for the money (even before MSO costs), there are better and more desirable GT cars for both types of owners.

Enjoyed that. There may be a geographical error in the latter part however. I think that's the Yorkshire Dales rather than the moors which are more to the East.
We had that exact same conversation in the SLR on the way back home. There's no way to edit video to correct stuff like this (unlike a copy for a magazine) so while I know I said Moors, I actually meant Dales. Next time..M4SER said:
