Love that Green in the XJC.

The engine too it’s so well dressed lovely.
I like the colour too but I don't think it will age well.

Using non-original colours is very much the thing right now with the current trend of restomods.

I predict that in a few years, we will look at mods like this and think " what were they thinking".

Then again, I predicted Y2K would be the biggest thing to hit since WW2, that people aren't gullible enough to vote Brexit and that this Wuhan thing will blow over like SARS did.
Got any tips for the Euros?

Just caught up on the XJC paint video. Some impressive fabrication has gone into that bodywork.

Random trivia: My Dad (81, retired BL press tool engineer) worked on the tooling to make those wing panels originally.

As a 5yo I got to have a wander round the factory on a Saturday afternoon when they did an open day for staff, fascinating stuff to watch as a nipper! I also got a really cool yellow Jaguar t-shirt that my mum has kept and is now regularly sported by my own 6yo, some 44 yrs later on!

I’m new to Harry’s Garage and only got into it because of his L322 Range Rover buying guide which I found very helpful when buying my TDV8 last week.
Just watched the 1st episode of the Jaguar restoration and I’m hooked. I’m not sure why as I have no interest in old (or new) Jaguars but there is something very relaxing about watching Harry’s videos.
Anyway, if you read this Harry, thanks for making this content.

Has Harry ever mentioned the demographics for his viewers from the Youtube analytics?

It probably goes without saying that the average viewer age is older than a lot of the more 'hyper' channels, but I imagine there's actually a younger audience gradually tuning it too..

The dark green colour for the xjc looks lovely. Reminded me of the once sort after VW Oak green on a Mk2 golf gti. Always good to see a rusty old shell being brought back. Guessing on interior colours will be next. With that green I would choose a simple saddle leather colour. Typically Jaguar but not what was available for that particular year. smile

My dad had a 323i BMW in the late 1970’s that was a very similar colour to Harrys’ Jag. It looked stunning to my teenage eyes but I’ll reserve judgement on the Jag until we see the finished article, but I have doubts. Overall a brilliant project and compulsive viewing, though I prefer the Fulvia.

I can't recall if it's been mentioned, but is the roof going to get the vinyl treatment or will it be green all over..? Not sure which I'd prefer to be honest scratchchin

Partly from watching these restoration vids I got inspired and finally carried out a bare metal respray of... my Saab's petrol cap! It had gone rusty, not all the way through, but badly pitted in places...

Need to polish the rest of the car so it's as shiny now!

With the Jag, the Lancia and now the Roller, I think at some point Harry will be canonized as St Harry the Patron Saint of welders !

What do you class as a younger viewer these days?

There is just something intimate and comforting about Harry's car review videos. He makes you feel like you're in the car with him. And no unnecessary music.

All the other car channels that are aimed at younger audiences always seem to include the same style of music that has a squeaky synthesised chipmunk vocal part. You never hear this type of music on the radio, just on certain YouTube genres.

laugh I know exactly what you mean. I assume it's copyright free and easy to get hold of, awful though isn't it?

Is it just one song or is it a whole genre that sounds the same and has a lot of copyright free examples?

A 20 something that watches the likes of Harry's Garage would probably be classed a weirdo by his peers these days.

Sad times.

Maybe Harry is doing YouTube wrong to entice the younger viewers.

He doesn't follow the correct YouTube video best practice of a camera facing introduction about today's 'show', followed by a flashy pointless channel intro jingle and then him starting the actual content by rephrasing what he just said in the initial intro, rendering the entire first 30 seconds of the video completely pointless. All topped off with an oversaturated thumbnail that features him pulling a stupid shocked face.

That's the reason I like his channel to be fair, it's just calm and interesting viewing.

It's not exactly clear cut what is 'young' these days... I think Youtube has age brackets for its analytics so I was just wondering what the range is for Harry's videos, eg. I'd assume it starts picking up more 30+ whereas the more loud and brash channels you describe are probably alot more popular with under 20's (at a guess)

Gotta stretch it out to the 10 minute mark for the ads!

Well, I was 29 when the channel started and I've been watching it from the beginning. Not sure how much has changed in the intervening 7 years, but guessing there is a lot more content from YouTubers now then there was back then.

That's kind of the point though really. I don't watch or pay any interest to what you'd call "actual" YouTubers at all, just people I know about who happen to now be posting content on YouTube.

I'd read Evo Magazine since issue 1, which came out days before I turned 14, so guess I grew up with it! Only bought it because it had a 22B review in it, but it raised the bar for that type of car magazine.

I’m 25 now but have been following Harry since he started (2014?) and was aware of him during his Evo days (specifically that video of him and Chris Harris in the Veyron). I watch his videos religiously, both Garage and Farm.

That said, I’ve also followed Shmee since he had his first Aston V8. I watch Jimmy Broadbent, Car Throttle, Seen Through Glass, Carwow etc. As an out and out petrolhead, they all scratch different itches. Harry’s videos are calm, informative and really makes you feel like you’re in the car with him. Sam gives incredible shots of the car, scenery and all round fantastic cinematography. Car Throttle is great for stupid stuff and I enjoy sim racing so Jimmy is a great channel for that.

But Harry’s videos have their place too, and I feel on a somewhat similar level, Jedward gives me the same sort of feel from his videos.

Car Throttle is enjoyable, their cheap car challenges are great fun. Also good chemistry between Alex, Ethan and Jack, reminds me a bit of how Top Gear used to be.
Jimmy Broadbent's content is fun but I'm just bitter that I don't get paid when I play iRacing.

I'm guessing that 'Jedward' is nothing to do with those god-awful Irish twins that were on z-factor years ago.....

I like a lot of Car Throttle but that 3 series compact atrocity meant a gap in watching until they moved on.
