You see this what makes me laugh about EVs. This morning I drove to Southend to collect some batteries for my Lagonda, a round trip of 190 miles. Having set off early, I was on my way back by 10:30 and only stopped for 5 mins to get a coffee and flap jack in a BP garage. Home by 11:30, job done. So in a Tessa I'd be on the M3 looking at the juice gauge thinking 'st I wish I'd charged up somewhere' but that would have meant nursing a coffee somewhere for half an hour and not nipping into a basic garage on the A127.
I know, how will everyone manage?Well most people don’t have Lagondas so there’s a good leveller

So ill-informed !

As Harry said in the video, when running on higher boost these have to run extra rich to help with cooling. They're just dumping extra fuel into the cylinders to stop the pistons from melting. He said he was getting ~13mpg even on a gentle motorway run, and it didn't seem to drop much from that even when he went up into the mountains.
Tell me why people lament the demise of the air cooled Porsches again? RichB said:

Whats the Prob? 190miles round trip?- would have pissed it in our Model Y.
So ill-informed !
Based my comment on the real life experience of the chap who said that over two years all got form his Tesla was 250 so not at all ill informed. So ill-informed !
p.s. Why so rude?
And even so- 250 useable range would munch a 190 mile round trip.
Versus the picture you painted

Chap’s there’s a whole EV thread for this sort of dull back and forth. Any chance of keeping on topic, this is one of the few pleasant threads on here!
+1On a more positive note, I loved the Spanish video, though I don't fancy the ferry trip or the MPG shock
I'll be in Spain in June, so hope to see a tiny part of the lovely roads experienced by Harry.

Watched the Spain video last night, a great road trip - made a note of some of the roads for when I'm next driving to/from Portugal.
The ferry was interesting... I never used to take the Ferry all the way to Spain as they always used to arrive into Spain in the middle of the day, leaving you 1100km from the Algarve which is too far to do in one afternoon, so you had to stop. Whereas I can do the journey from Caen to the Alagrve in one stop as well, so the ferry always took an extra day. Now there's a ferry that gets into Spain at 8am, that's much more sensible.
The 911 is lovely, fuel economy aside. Fair play to Harry for actually getting it out and giving it a good run - I suspect the car will be much better for it.
Now I'm looking at the long Jubilee bank holiday weekend in June and wondering if I should try and squeeze in a road trip!

Harry's travel companion is the real hero on these trips
"My darling, can you just stand in this random field entrance while I blast past a few times? Try not to get muddy feet. Oh and don't forget framing, and thanks for not having that extra glass of wine last night so you can maintain a steady hand."
We took the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander in our motorhome in 2018. Had a great crossing, saw wales and dolphins and a nice relaxing crossing.
Once out of the port and onto the main roads there is avery little traffic as Harry observed.
We drove to Potes, then through the mountains to Haro (capital of Rioja) seeing very few cars in hundreds of KM's. From there we went to Pamplona and then north again to Donostia-San Sebastian on the coast before heading back to Santander.
We did see a few Brit's out there in classics (Triumph Stag and several Lotus/Caterham's etc) and quite a few bikers enjoying the roads.
One of the best holidays we've ever had and somewhere we will definitely be returning to.
Really enjoyed Harry's trip and even Mrs J4 sat and watched his adventures.

I wonder if there's an overfuelling issue with the 930 causing such poor mpg, or is that really what it gets?
Harry mentioned in the video that he'd called people up about it and they had said that the car over fuels and that's what you get out of a tuned 930 turbo, he was doing KMs to fuel used at the pumps so I guess that's what it gets. Back in 1981/2 myself and wife no 1 in our Lotus sunbeam and my M&D in there 3.3 930 Turbo 4sp also got the ferry to Bilbao, but from Plymouth, a Terrible crossing, rough as hell, I have never felt so ill!
The road trip through the middle of Spain to Near Marbella was awesome though, we were both pressing on, managing to keep up without any problem.
Roads and scenery were great. I think the LS managed low 20’s mpg wise, similar for the Porsche.
13 mpg for a modded one sounds pretty drastic, I can understand that if you’re pushing on most of the time, I suspect its not set up correctly though.
Good trip and review

From reading around, it was apparently not that great on fuel! However, the EPA in the US did have it down as 16MPG urban and 21 MPG highway. Something like that, in 1986. And that'll be US MPG with their smaller gallon. So I guess its fair to assume, it probably should have been doing a little better. But I guess it will depend on how fast he was driving. The EPA test at the time for Highway was a 10 mile drive with average of 48 MPH. So not particularly quick!
Being air cooled, I bet they do some decent over-fuelling to cool the exhaust ports. Its something referred to as component protection and you can find your engine running lambda 0.8-0.9 (rich) to keep temperatures in check.

You always know it’s going to be a good episode when the proper map comes out!
Enjoyed the video and usually look forward to Sundays when new ones go live. The Spanish countryside looked great.
Not sure if I missed it but did he say he’d do the F40 video soon? Would love to see that compared with a 959 like so many did back in the day.
