Part of the reason I want an 812 to keep.

It's effectively Portofino -> Roma -> F8 -> 296 -> 812 -> SF90

Portofino and Roma - front engine V8's for those on benefits who can only afford circa £200,000 on their Ferrari.

F8 - The mid engine V8. Current equivalent of the 360.

296 - New era V6 hybrid, only available RWD.

SF90 - All singing all dancing 4WD 1,000HP hybrid.

812 - The traditional front engine V12 grand tourer aka the best Ferrari.
Thank you

While I admire the technical complexity, it just left me cold. It appeared to be a very clinical way to go very fast but without very much in the way of character. I'd have a Roma or a 296 over an SF90 - its styling is a bit of a dogs breakfast.

As I understand it the range is split into 4 different pillars.

Gran Turismo - Portofino M and Roma

Sports - 296GTB, F8, SF90, 812

Special Series - 812 Competizione

Icona - Monza SP1/SP2 and Daytona SP3

As would I.

Although we can probably surmise that failure to plug it in will result in a bill for a fk ton of money hehe

Anyone lend Harry a Dyane, he's mentioned them several times over the years when talking of his early years, I think one should be in the garage even if only for a few days.

Maybe he should do a cross-over with HubNut, swap Elly the 2CV for... dunno.. does Harry still have the old Range Rover? I know Ian is looking for family transport.

It looked way too fast. It didnt even look like the acceleration was enjoyable. Just looked scary quick.
I like the looks.
812 would be my choice or a pista.

So Harry finding , just as EVO did , that the SF90 is very badly resolved as a drivers car. Seems its problems all relate to the front electric motors and the unpredictable torque vectoring. For such a fast car being unable to trust it seems a pretty big fail.
Early reports on the 296 seem rather more positive (and its better looking too)
And the haptic controls are barmy. Why?

Enjoyed the review, but the SF90 does nothing for me, not that I could ever afford one anyway. I may be turning into an old fart, but it's just too fast for the road isn't it, as in too fast and too capable to enjoy its capability? The briefest prod of the loud pedal and you're sailing into licence losing territory. Harry was well into 4th a couple of times, I'm guessing that was *slightly* north of 60... wink

Given all the tech in the SF90, that’s really not the car you buy new and keep outside of warranty is it?

Any idea what the black masking tape on the screen on the left hand side of the dashboard was put there to hide?

I'm finding the current ferrari line up a bit confusing. Could someone explain it?
It used to be something like 360, scag, etc, but I can't work out what the pecking order these days.
What is the equivalent of the 458 all the way to the top.

I don't even understand my own question!

Order books are closed on everything (including the SF90) except the 296 and Roma. 812 Superfast production ended last year but 812 GTS and 812 Competizione are still being made as are F8s.

Current gear selected... The digital speed readout is at the end of the rev counter...

Although being a screen the layout and configuration could change with every drive mode so I might be wrong.

Loved the latest video, Iain and Harry always make for an enjoyable watch when they're together smile.

I too was surprised at the relatively low price of the gearbox bits.
So who’s going to have a guess at what Harry might be in for here engine out
Gearbox strip and investigation
Fix with OEM parts or fabricated parts
Full detail of engine bay engine and gearbox
Suspension refresh incl painting bushes etc
Digging deeper into the engine /heads off valve work
Something else / as you’ve gone this far you may as well - bound to be something
Rebuild
Tune
Crackle coat valve covers

I’m thinking (given we know it’s £3k alone for the fabricated gearbox bits) £15-18k.
I was thinking nearer £25k but depends on how much engine work is required.
Don’t read any of this Harry, I am sure you are going to get away with just £6k. :-)
TBH I was expecting the custom machined parts to be a lot more than ~£1k each. Did I miss it on the video or was there no cause attributed to the wear on the layshaft? Is it just standard wear to that part commensurate with use? Or was it due to mechanical abuse or maintenance neglect? There was talk of low oil in the 'box but this wasn't expanded upon.

Ha I think anyone who knows cars could count the gears and revs and can guess smile.

That said maybe the “fun” of accelerating is removed from modern super cars and many lesser cars as they are up to the local speed limits in the blink of an eye.
Imagine say a Citroen AX GTi letting most of the gears go all the way the time of acceleration is so much longer to enjoy induction and exhaust - whilst at speeds even the bluntest and slowest diesel would surpass.

That trip seems cracking value for money for what you get. No offence Harry, but I hope to be as fit as you in my 60’s to be able to do something like that.

I love the feature length videos
