I do love that Jonny is exactly the same kind of weirdo I am, and will spend more time discussing a Panda 4x4 than an F40.

Jonny is pure isn't he? I loved his comment about the XJ-C annoying him because he remembers when he could have bought one for a grand.

Love his work, and Harry's of course.

Not seen the video yet but that's daft. We could all tell stories like that: I was close to buying a DB2 for £600 back when I was in my teens but wanted a convertible so bought an MGA Twin Cam instead. Eventually paid £42k for my Aston hehe

Given what a DB2/4 MkIII is probably worth today, in relative terms you *did* not far off buy it for a grand, surely...? smile

Oh it is daft but it's more the way he talks car that I'm approving of. I almost bought a 911 SC for 8.5k, and so on and so forth smile

Enjoyed Johnny's interviews - both parts. There was an allusion in part 1 to talking a bit more about the Arctic Roller which I don't think really happened. I really love the Arctic adventure and welcome any anecdotes about that car.

Also, Johnny's vids always suffer with low volume. This one was particularly hard. Made me nervous all the way through that the ads would burst-in and destroy my speakers.

Quite possibly smile At least the current 'value' justifies the man-maths involved in the bare metal repaint and strip down it's going to get in the winter! eek

You tube premium removes the ADs and may increase Harry’s revenue as the “algorithm” that pays favours premium member viewing on longer videos.

I'm not talking about videos that Harry has published.

I was keeping to the context of the thread. Some think that premium steals from the content providers and puts more money into the pocket of google.

Any long videos, that are watched to the end, will pay out more from premium subscribers, even Johnny's.

Lets not kid ourselves Harry Metcalfe is a dream customer for that business, he's got money to burn, will think nothing of throwing £20k at that Fulvia and plenty of promotion for them.

That comes across as very cynical. Harry is an enthusiast and the past has shown he is selective about what he has done to each of his cars. The key is he uses them all so unlike some people he doesn't go down the route of literally money no object as otherwise they would be 'too nice to risk driving'.

Yes it is clear that Harry is fairly affluent but he's a self made man so should be congratulated that part of that came from giving PHers EVO magazine which I am sure we have all enjoyed over the years, especially the early ones.

The guys doing the resto likely don't need any advertising as they already mentioned they have a Dino in next and with the body guy now part time sound like they are at their capacity of work. Amazing workmanship and a pleasure to watch.

I'm looking forward to the next Countach update now I've had a bit of Fulvia update!

Yep.

I get the evils from the missus when the ads come on.

I think Harry and anyone who knows or has worked for him would laugh at someone describing him as simply throwing his money around like some rich playboy.

I doubt you would Harry to lend you 50p towards buying a Twix without a 6 page strategic breakdown of the historical Twix market, your expected ROI on said Twix and whether you have given proper consideration to investing in other Twix-alike competitors.

Agreed, that last one was really bad for some reason! It was great though. Even the missus, who hates you Tube, was enthralled. Johnny is a bit like Hubnut, loves all those weird curiosities that no-one else would appreciate. I'm waiting for a review of a souped up K10 or K11 Micra. Or a Daf, with the variomatic transmission. I don't think anyone has reviewed one of those. Surely something Johnny would approve.

hehe

You can literally hear it in Harry's voice when he talks about money/costs!

From what I've seen, H has a very grounded view to the money he spends on his cars and that could be why he comes across in a more appealing manner than others. He has nothing to prove and just says things as he sees them.

I'm really not sure how he is going to top some of his videos of the last 12/18 months. Even one of the repair/restoration videos would have been a treat.

When I saw that he was doing a 2-parter with Harry I was thrilled to watch, but in the end it disappointed me. The low sound levels were inexcusable - even turning it up all the way didn't seem to help with clarity of the discussion and of course you got blasted out of your seat when an ad intruded. But the interview itself also seemed somewhat clumsily edited and conducted. I was interested in how Harry got to where he is today and while it touched on those early days it was difficult to connect all of the dots. I don't know how much of that was due to the questions that got asked, the answers Harry gave, or the editing afterward. The bios of Harry that are online cover much of the same ground but suffer from similar problems. Maybe Harry needs to write his own biographical book to fill in the gaps.

Google seems hell-bent on pushing viewers to the Premium version by sticking ads in at the worst possible times for non-Premium viewers. I resent what they have done to YT. But for $12/mo here in Canada I just do not see the value in it.
