For the looks, the dashboard and the money saving I'd have the Alpina.

Madness and looks a complete mess.

Alpina was so much better, very classy and understated.

What did you expect for something with that level of performance with all the options and carbon brakes? laugh an RS6 is £130k.....

Looking forward to the next five pages of people moaning about the cost, saying they'd buy the Alpina (sales must be incredible!), it's too heavy, why no manual etc etc.

Interesting though that Harry said he would take the M3 over the Alpina...but what would he know, eh? wink

I was slightly surprised he seemed so positive about it given all the things he didn't like about it along the way.

At what point would an RS6 be a rival, it is a class above.

RS4 is its rival.

My point is that the class above is a lot more expensive..... The outgoing RS4 is soon to be replaced and the cost of that has yet to be revealed. New C63 isn't cheap either, I'm surprised people are so surprised at the price. Show me another estate car which has remotely the same performance as this with all the options and carbon brakes which is both better and cheaper.....

Some BMW's like the E60 5 series looked really odd when they launched but a couple of years down the line they blended in better, sadly the M3 front grill still looks as horrific today as it did at launch.

The Alpina looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing from the front for a daily driver.

I saw a few pics of this Mazda mx30. How long before we see Ferrari badges on them?

The other way round would be more apt though would someone spending that much of a sense of humour plus if you did rebadge it would Ferrari throw their toys out of the pram and take legal action like they did to the DJ who replaced the prancing horse with a cat?

Considering the Mazda's been out for coming upto three years now it would be odd if at some point Ferrari didn't realise the similarities between the vehicles.

MX-30 for the doors, CX-30 for the looks...

I didn't understand the pricing because I was under the impression they were all over £100k, not just when the owner had thrown the option book at it.

I think they're about £86k standard.

Makes me feel old and out of touch. Its just a crazy price to me for a 3 series.

Before the inflation etc. escalation I kind of felt like I was doing OK, now I'm more worried about what the future holds than I have been for a long time. Especially as my pension has been going backwards with the stock market falls.

Who is buying these types of cars, especially how finance has been getting more and more expensive?

I wouldn’t worry too much - base (no options) 3 series estate appears to be 41.5k. There’s quite a spread between the lowest and most expensive versions though!

You have a point but it is a complete mess styling wise, way too heavy plus it is just too expensive for the class of car.

Well I like it. Too heavy ? Weighed by EVO at around 1885kg and over 300 kg lighter than the RS6. Cars are just very heavy these days. Engine sounds amazing, I loved the green paint and it went down Harry's road like a scolded cat. Yes £100k is insane but a type R is £45k and they were £15995 when an M3 coupe was £38k, sooooo......

Way too heavy and expensive for its class of car. How much does a new C63 cost and weigh? And you think the incoming RS4 will be cheaper and lighter?

Again, if you could point me in the direction of an estate car that's as fast, as good to drive which is a lot cheaper and lighter then it'd be interesting to hear it. It can't be the Alpina because we already know it's not as sharp to drive or as quick so what else do you suggest?

I would still buy the Alpina, looks loads better and plenty fast enough for me.

For my £100K I'd buy a (much) cheaper family wagon or SUV where I wouldn't have to worry about the kids kicking the lacquered carbon backs of the seats, messing up the pale leather or more importantly one that didn't cause me to physically wince every time I looked at it and a sports car on a dedicated sports car platform for fun.

I don't want to have to worry about my daily driver and I don't want my fun car to be an estate.

I'm glad that BMW build it, it's just not for me.
