Good episode and good to see a witness going through with it despite the intimidation.

Good result all round.

The whole 'no comment' thing needs revising, we're constantly told that Police are being stretched so why waste valuable time doing these interviews ?
I think the accused should be offered the chance to answer questions beforehand or alternatively they choose the 'no comment' route with their usual prepared statement also being submitted.
All seems such as waste of time.

What starts as a No Comment interview can easily turn into a full and frank.
You still need to ask the questions

There will be some interviews that will go from no comment to some or all answers.

There may be some times where when you give the interviewee information they decide to change their mind in interview about answering because you may tell them something they didn't know. It would be impractical to set all of this out in advance for complex issues.

And of course an interview is fluid.

Some people may not like it... right to silence and all that... but I'd like to see no comment more strongly frowned upon so instead of saying negative inferences MAY be drawn to change it to something like it will be assumed you are lying/hiding something unless you provide a reason as to why you are no commenting.

As an aside, it must be pretty tame round there if two skinny 9 stone Asian idiots can intimidate the area.

They will get a reality check in prison about where they are in the pecking order.
Cambridge is very tame, a tiny town centre dominated by the University
Most of the surroundings/suburbs are very leafy and affluent, places like Granchester and Girton

Arbury is thought of as the "rough" area, so yes these two herberts were sprats in a tiny pond

Nevertheless I did find it chilling how calm/smirking the accused was at the police station. Presumably must have been some solid forensics involved in the conviction.

I've seen enough of these programs to see that some people really don't seem to care that they will be spending 15-20 years in prison hence don't seem bothered at all in custody. I suspect most normal people would become somewhat nervous and break down.

BTW given that Wood IS indeed a killer he is probably somewhat more dangerous than some of you tough guys!

I know Girton well. I had a "friend with benefits" there in the past.

Don't be chilled by their demeanor. It's all a front. If they were to be truly feared, people wouldn't have falling over themselves to call the police and name drop "Woody,".

Scariest thing about Cambridge in my experience is the bloody cyclists. wink

They come from a world where it's all about "face" and "respec". They have to, at all times, show how "not bothered" they are, because they are "hard" init. Otherwise they'd lose face. So when confronted with this situation, despite crapping themselves inside, they revert to their learned behaviour because that's worked in the past. Until that is, they come up against a rigid set of rules like the law, and a set of people who'll enforce them, like the police. Suddenly it's not working, but they have nothing else.

Must confess a little snigger at the female detectives face during the morning prayers confession by the SOI about forgetting whether he had showered or not.

That whole piece felt very cringey.

I believe it's some bullst from a management course. You get that sort of thing from a few managers. Presumably it's "Start with a relatable snippet from your day". Which becomes "creep the staff the fk out, make them cringe, and if you can, brag about how great all your extra pay is".

Not a natural leader.

Like when he concluded with "Right, let solve this!" or words to that effect and everyone just kind of dispersed....

I don't think it's that, if you've never been arrested it can be quite daunting and upsetting, once you've been arrested a few times you know the police are just a civil service department so not really something to worry about. The courts sentence you, to the police you're a bit of paperwork.

From experience the "hardest" guys are often not the biggest. Its how far they are willing to go. Also, if they are making a lot of money then they will have plenty of lackeys willing to physically intimidate.

Carrying a knife doesn't make you hard. Stabbing your unarmed mate doesn't make you hard. He would've been off his head on gear and it was a split second bad decision.

He will get smashed to fk if he tries it on inside. As a murderer he will be on a wing housing people who wouldn't think twice about hurting him.

And I know a number of people on the outside who would keep woody and his brother as pets.
