Another interesting show on this week on BBC - Murder Trial: The Disappearance of Margaret Fleming.

In two parts, 1st episode was last night, 2nd is on tonight.

Follows the trial of a man & woman accused of murdering a woman with learning difficulties in Scotland.
Think I’ve had my fill of death for this week...

I don't think they prove a death in this one.

I could easily look it up butcan't be bothered but I believe for murder the 'starting point' is 30 years and then there are mitigating and agrevating factors that respectively lower or add to the sentence. Assides from the 1/3 off you get for an early guilty plea, which would have saved them a theoretical 8-9 years each (depending on parole), mitigation can include things like age of perp, crime of passion, provocation, and then maybe things like duress, cooercian, insanity, self defense etc. Agrevation can include premeditation, sexual gratification, murder of a minor, multiple murders, use of illegal weapons, torture etc. I can't remember Alesha murder circumstances but may have been that he was young, and tried in Scotland which has a variation of sentencing guidelines.
No, in the UK a murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence. Life sentence meaning exactly that, you are sent to prison for life and any parole or release is subject to a license, the terms of which can be variable but if they are broken or for other reasons you can be recalled to prison and kept indefinitely for life.

life sentences have a minimum recommendation ‘rec’ with the exception of indeterminate sentences which are extremely rare. That is what I am talking about here.

One for the 'Real Estate nightmares' thread last night!
Not been seen since 1999 and the police just missed her leaving by another door by a couple of seconds. scratchchin
I wonder what prompted the check by the social worker after all this time, the fact that they were still claiming her benefits? If they hadn't been and said she left around 1999 with a boyfriend, that might have been the end of it, or wouldn't have had the initial knock in the first place.
To claim she had been/was still living there, in that room is going to be their downfall.

They also conveniently left out that Jordan is from a well known traveller family and Sam was far from an angel himself.
On the traveller side of things, and this may be me having prejudice, it mentioned in the show that there was a feud or ongoing row with "the Meehan family" - when I heard this I wondered if there was a traveller connection somewhere and expected an even bigger plot twist.

The girlfriend at the beginning of episode 1 when she was 1st interviewed said he sold 2 grades of weed. Normal weed and Pharmaceutical grade from California. Keep up at the back old bean
What this really means is he just sticks some nicer weed in some fancy packaging he bought online then sells it at £80 an eighth.

They got greedy and said Margaret was ill with all sorts of st which he tried to claim money for. So the social services wanted to verify that and no-one could find her.

So they brought it on themselves.

Do some of you realise these are documentaries based on real life events and not some fictional murder mystery for you to solve?

This is one of the most compelling/best programmes on TV.
Yep!
Another really interesting 2 part programme started last night in Scotland although I think it's available on iPlayer -

Murder Trial: The disappearance of Margaret Fleming

They were allowed to film the trial in the High Court, part 2 is about to start now.

Yes exactly, so not hard to turnover £2k a week that's only 25 deals

Those 2 letters sent from the hotel in London were very telling once it was evident that the accused stayed there at the same time.
