Chain Reaction was good last week; Harry Hill interviewing Tim Vine. Worth a listen; Vine's parents must be proud of him. His brother? Not so much....

Yep, enjoyed that. This week's was surprisingly good too with Sir Ken. Also of note is the Skivers on 4 Extra.

New series of The Unbelievable Truth starts on Monday, which is good news.

I've given up on the Now Show, it's become a parody. Every episode is about 5 minutes funny and 25 rants against trump/brexit/austerity by a box ticker.

I'm imagining the box tickers sofa from tthis, lined up ready to take their turn outside the studio

Been much hating “The Now Show”

Might forgive them a bit for giving two minutes to Adam Kay!

The last few series of The Now Show have been poor. It's has a rather self-indulgent, self-congratulatory air, as if the listeners are lucky to be able to share in the performers' unbelievably intellectual, biting satire.

It is up to series 52 now, Been on far too long, ran out of ideas about 10 years ago, and tries too hard to be 'topical'. Which just means Trump, Brexit and misandry. If it were a pet, you'd put it out of its misery.

Isn't that its raison d'etre?

All of which are fairly topical!

As someone who downloads the podcasts of the 'Now Show' a few things annoy me.

1) The preamble before the program starts, usually some duff trailer or feeble joke with P&D.. .
2) Ditto the ending they have started doing it as well .... Arrgghh..

I did not download the podcast to listen to that.

3) The program is now very variable some good bits from time to time with P&D.
But now we have guest speakers who are asked a series of questions by P&D.. Not rib tickling funny in any way..

4) Then we have women with an equality or anti men agenda ranting on.

Yes we know it should be equal thanks
Yes we know men should not grab womens bums without permission thanks.

I agree that it's gone downhill from it's peak about ten years ago..
Shame they got rid of the musical items by Mitch Ben.

That would be a fair comment, if they got a new script every once in a while. They are clearly inspired by this.

It seems clear to me that the guest ranter/comedian they have on every week is a desperate attempt to box tick and the ranter/comedian seem to always find it necessary to point out how they do that on behalf of their new friends at the BBC diversity department. I really don't see why it's necessary to make a point of labelling yourself as some kind of oppreseed minority when you are there to be funny. If the speaker is gay/iranian/transgender it really isn't relevant and no one really cares - just concentrate on being funny.
Just to prove my point I listened to the "Friday Night Comedy" from last week and played "how long until the comedian mentions their race/sexuality/etc" it was about 45 seconds before the guy pointed out he was black. and he wasn't funny either. His act was about how he couldn't afford a house in London because baby boomers.
My advice to him is try being funny, and then he might earn more money as a stand up comedian. Alternatively get a job he is good at and let someone who is funny take his spot on the BBC.

I quite liked him, unlike the closing ranter who went off on one.

New "topical" comedy show on R4.

I found it actually rather funny.

The last sketch was really good, on more than a comedic level.

I found it patchy, but a lot better than much of the newer output in the 6:30 comedy slot, much of which is dire (looking at you Gloomsbury, and the one set in Hull with Maureen Lipman). Other than the odd gem like The Unbelievable Truth or Dead Ringers, the classics like I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue are still so much better.

Hardeep Singh Kohli I don't rate as a comedian, but did a serious series where he cooked Sunday lunch wirh various people that was actually very enjoyable.

Yes, some of those were great.

The best new comedy I have heard in ages is 'The Pin', hoping for another series soon.

I listened to that in the car thinking that it might get better. It didn't.

I had nightmares about that programme.
