I watched the Christmas special last night, some of it seemed familiar so I may just possibly have seen it before and forgotten about it.

Something that did irk me, the voiceover , ruined the moment and mood.

Did we ever find out why they had come back from Africa and why they had lost their house? Bit odd that Sophie just vanished also. Kind of replaced by Toni and Kate I guess. I'll also have to rewatch it all at some stage.

THe female detectorist from S1&2? S3 did suffer from her absence. S3 was a year or so after S2 though, so it's explainable and I guess MC had no ideas for her character.

Presumably they sold it when they went out there because neither of them had a job, paid off the mortgage with the proceeds and the rest formed their savings. There was a comment in the Christmas special where Andy was saying they would stay for another if the dig could get the funding, so perhaps it didn't.

Just finished watching all 3 series for the second time over the last 3 days.

Such a simple, subtly hilarious and wonderfully beautiful program. Sad it has finished but loved the ending and how it was all wrapped up.

Great last episode, the proposal in the field was typically subtle and made me all watery eyed! Bring on the next series.

Not necessarily... I was just watching more of the extras on the series 3 DVD, MC says he's putting it aside for now but he might come back to it in future if Toby and the others are up for it. So he's not ruled it out!

Signed, best TV series I have watched in years, absolutely superb in every respect. I bought the complete DVD set and watched them all again last week, and the "I think I can get under that tape" moment was one of the funiest things I've seen on TV, along with the auction scene
