Detectorists: BBC4

My favourite series no question. The humour is so me it’s just perfect. I love when there’s a joke that doesn’t get explained, you just have to know enough to get it. Sheila is just the best character possible, so much going on there that is never spoken about. I’d love to get to watch another series but at the same time I love thinking about the direction the characters have gone and daydreaming about the programme in general. Lance’s daughter is perfection personified to me, that voice...

A thank you to all who recommended this.
I missed it first time round but caught up at the beginning of this year after seeing this thread. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. I've since urged other friends / family to watch it and the reaction is the same - positive, perfect viewing for lockdown and should lift the spirits. Just go watch it.

Just watching Worzel Gummidge and there appears to be a yellow TR7 in a field with 2 metal detectorists. A nice touch.

When we were watching Worzel (mainly for the gentle story, countryside and innocent feelgood factor which reminds us of the Detectorists), I commented to my wife how much I would love another series of the Detectorists, then I spotted this... come on, just one more series!
No, just leave it. The ending was perfect.ChrisnChris said:
Speaking of dust, I have no tangible explanation, nothing I can point at or quote but there is something about this series that makes me well up.
I'm doing it now writing this.
Recently gave it a third watch though - still finding things I missed on the first two watches - and yeah, still evokes a little dust. I have no idea why, either. Perhaps it's because all the characters you end up rooting for - I even found myself feeling a little sorry for 'Paul and Art' in S3.I'm doing it now writing this.
I also felt slightly sad that I'm too old and ugly to ever appeal to Aimee-Ffion Edwards
It's because of this show that I took up Detectoring, the two disappointments are that - given I live in Danbury - there is no Danbury Metal Detecting Club (assuming this is the 'Danebury' connection) and that apart from one very helpful individual, all of the Detectorists I've met so far are, well; tts.
One of my lockdown projects was up-skilling my filming and editing capabilities as well as learning how to use a drone. Inspired by Detectorists, I made a film about a local canal including a bit where they filmed Toni's 'boat': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4f9AN_kbig (8.43 for the boat bit).

I just finished watching this delightful series that, somehow, I was completely unaware of until recently.
All characters have elements of joy, sadness, faults, kindess, secrets, mystery and depth that makes them feel like friends or family I've known for years. I felt quite emotional about the Dirt Sharks / S&G / BAT after a whole series of hating and laughing at them.
It feels like the kind of series that could only have been made in England and the fact that it was filmed in such a beautfiul part of the country topped what was already a superbly crafted show.
Who knew that Gareth from The Office was so talented? I guess probably lots of people, but not me until now.

We've just this week finisihed watching it for the 3rd time. It's still magnificent, and one of my favourite episodes is from S3, when they find the hawk whistle. Hauntingly beautiful.
I felt the need to look up the location of "The Tree" after the final episode, and managed to pin it down on google maps. And was then immediately gutted to find it was but a mile away from where we stayed in Suffolk back in September! We'd have made the pilgrimage if we'd known.
That getaway and years of watching Detectorists has me trawling Rightmove on a regular basis, dreaming of a move down that way.
