So, basically, the same old tired CGI crap over and over and over and over and over and over again?
Even the Dad's Army remake is looking promising compared to this crop of auto-movies.
knock yourself out watching Dad's Army dude - I'll be enjoying my "tired CGI crap" Even the Dad's Army remake is looking promising compared to this crop of auto-movies.
SuperpowerMan
SuperpowerMan 2
SuperpowerMan: Rejigged
SuperpowerMan: Genesis
SuperpowerMan: Origins of Genesis
SuperpowerMan 3 ()
SuperpowerMan: Rejigged Again.
SuperpowerMen: Army of Superpower
SuperpowerGirl: The Power of Tits
SuperpowerMan: Here We Go Again
Bit....samey innit?
The fact there are a few "Marvel: Untitled movie" and "Unknown Superman movie" or whatever says that this schedule has nothing to do with story, content or progession and is simply the studio accountants and marketing men saying "Yeah, 'bout time for another Batman movie. Fans'll be ready to buy a load more merchandise and DVDs by now"

Marvel have been planning this for years, including the schedule. Just because they hadn't been announced, doesn't mean that Marvel don't know the storyarc they are following...
The only fly in the ointment is the sale a long while ago of a couple of characters movie rights they'd really quite like to have to assist with that.
Hence why they signed up key actors for multiple films at the very beginning - RDJ has arguably signed away a significant part of his career to 'be' Iron Man. (yes I know he's still doing other films, but they'll have to fit in with Marvel's schedule, not the other way around).
The titles are irrelevant, except for generating a lot of excitement and hype for long time fans who read this stuff as kids (did you ever read any form of comic as a child - these stand head and shoulders above the Beano for adult themes within 'children's' material).
The point being, if you had much awareness of the themes going on (relative strengths/weaknesses of character traits - for example whilst Tony Stark/Iron Man is a billionaire playboy genius who has pretty much no limits, his ego is such that he can never be happy) including some that for the time were completely unacceptable for the day.
Of course, you may be someone for whom any form of fantasy literature doesn't work (my SiL is one, she has to be able to relate it to the real world). If so, fair enough. However just because there's superheroes and cgi, doesn't mean they're like Michael Bay doing giant robots just for the visuals - there are some seriously strong stories going on too.

You do know it's all just make-believe don't you?
And can we drop the bit about this franchise being some kind of moral crusade for taboo social issues? It's 2014. Men are allowed to kiss men now, and women had the vote a long time ago.

There's fiction, and then there's make believe.
The two are very subtley different, bit different none the less.
Can you explain that? The way I see it, most fiction requires or involves a degree of suspension of disbelief and empathy. That can lead to empowerment/wish-fulfilment by proxy I guess, but that is down to the reader/viewer.The two are very subtley different, bit different none the less.
I've not read the comics (well, I read some issues of Iron Man about thirty years ago and don't remember much of them), but I think they are mostly good fun films, with reasonably interesting stories. They don't require much intellect, but I don't always want films to challenge me in that way. Also, they are bound to have trite elements to them; the comics are pretty old so even the most original characters, plots and ideas have been about for a long time.

Superpowerawesomeness is just weak IMHO in that it gives a handy little get out (compounded by the all-encompassing visual pissing contest that is CGI)...."I know, I'll just use my super-awesome power to get me out of this one by pushing over this iconic skyscraper" and, for me at least, another aspect that makes the whole superpowerawesomeness genre a bit lame is the way it's portrayed so seriously against (invariably) a modern day USA. If you're gonna go make believe do it properly and come up with an entire alternate universe and whisk us off to Jabba's Palace.
Superpowerawesomness works well in print/cartoon but on fillum....and several times over.....nah, not for me but fill your boots (just try not to get any on your cape)

Your rants are not quite as clever as you think they are.
But if you don't like it that's cool, just not sure why your getting so pent up and aggressive that others on here (and millions around the world) actually do like these movies.
Can't even be bothered to waste time trying to explain anything to you, we like it, you don't. Time you moved on and took a chill pill I think. No amount of ranting is going to make us think different (although it is forming a very vivid picture of you)

Maybe they are, and they're just lost on you in the same way that superpowerawesomeness films are lost on me?Civpilot said:

Aggressive? You've lead a very sheltered life.I fully appreciate it's cool to like different thing, hence my Fill Yer Boots comment.

However you've used the example of Star Wars, which inherently requires a complete suspension of belief by suggesting there's a mystical pyschic force that certain heros and baddies can use - as an example that isn't 'make believe'!
All the Marvel characters have a semi plausible back story - whether it be scientific experiment gone wrong/alien coming to Earth, etc. Which would seem to define 'fiction'...
