Not seen Alien/Predator/AVP series - which order to watch?
Discussion
As per the title I've never seen any of the Alien, Predator or AVP series.
I feel like I'm missing out on the excitement of the announcement of the Blomkamp sequel as a result... so which order should I watch the series in?
Do I go for release order, chronological order in terms of when the stores are set... or is there a better order like some suggest with Star Wars?
I know almost nothing about any of the movies, so try to avoid TOO many spoilers please!
Thanks for any suggestions..

Alien
Aliens
Alien 3 <<< Miss if you want
Alien Resurrection <<< not bad but if you miss it, it doesn't matter
Predator
Predator 2 << not worth it
AvP
AvP requiem
Can be watched after the rest
Prometheus << has no meaning until you have watched Alien first, but it will look a bit weird if you watch it after alien and before Aliens, though can be done after Aliens, instead of Alien 3, etc... then move onto Predator as it has no cross over until AVP.

Contrary to what a lot of other people say OP, it definately worth watching Alien through to Alien 3.
I dont get all the hate for Alien 3. I actually find it the deepest out of the three, and it actually ends the Ripley story quite well.
Plus, it's actually a really good performance from Weaver. If possible, watch the 'Assembly' version of Alien 3 instead of the cinema released cut. In fact, its worth watching the directors cut of the first 2 as well.
Predator is a must watch. Totally seperate from The Alien universe so doesnt matter if you watch it before or after the Alien trilogy.
Predator 2, Predators, Alien Resurection, AvP, & AvP:R are all optional. They're not brilliant films, but still fairly fun to watch as brain dead films go. Just don't try to associate them with the lore of the films above...as they just ruin it.

Watch Alien. Normal cut works fine. Directors cut a bit clunky.
Then watch Aliens. Directors Cut is the best, worth it for the sentry guns alone.
If you enjoyed Aliens, skip Alien 3 entirely, it'll just piss you off.
Alien Resurrection is entertaining enough in a comedy sci fi homage/pisstake/comic book sort of way but the end is cringingly awful.
Predator is great. Predator 2 is, I think, nearly as good - fleshes out some background to the predators, has its flaws but generally a decent enough sequel.
The AVP films are utterly without merit. Don't bother.
Prometheus, save yourself the bother, just stick needles in your eyes. Or kill yourself.

Still not sure about Prometheus, although I'm disappointed, of course. Then watch Aliens. Directors Cut is the best, worth it for the sentry guns alone.

Alien 3 makes me angry.

IMO Predator 2 is crap - its just too contrived and comedic - Predator doesn't really show its age - Predator 2 looks really bad nowadays. The AVP films are utterly without merit. Don't bother.

I quite like AvP for a brains out action film. AvP2 is garbage.
Predators was a big disappointment for me, could have been very good, but Adrien Brody is no Arnie.
Prometheus was just meh - kind of lost itself in its own hype - Fassbender was great in it and it had the budget, but in the 2+ hours of film, I probably remember about 2 minutes worth.

I enjoyed Predators, good concept, good movie.
Agreed, Predators is the best sequel to Predator IMO... Predator 2 is OK but has dated badly.Never really seen the point of the AVP stuff, just money spinning for me.
Some of the more weird ones include.
Alien vs Superman
Predator vs Judge dred
and so on and so on.

You're bang on with Predator 2, and having recently sat down for an evening to watch Predator with my 13 year old son .... it really hasn't aged at all. Although I found Predators to be pretty good. Brody wasn't really trying to be Arnie at all, it was a very different film, and I found it pretty enjoyable.
