I read it about twice a year - The uncut version does away with some bits that, admittedly, stretch out the book, like the Kid (which is no great loss) but it does add in a lot of interesting detail that helps visualise the book as a whole.

Oh, I can see Minnie Driver as Nadine.

Watching The Stand, however, I actually said out loud "that isn't how Joe/Leo looks", "that's not when we meet Nadine" and "That's not how we should be meeting Lucy". Amongst other things. I did like the Monster Shouter when I realised who it was - Kareem Adbul Jabbar: Roger, Roger smile

I'm getting a little excited for the new TV series that is being talked about - Whoopi Goldberg as Abagail Freemantle sounds awesome smile

Marilyn Manson rumoured for Flagg? That doesn't sound right to me.

I heard he was due to be in it, but for Flagg? I'm not so sure... I always thought that Mel Gibson would do a pretty good job him with humour and malevolence - But I suspect he's too old now

Yeah, I'm sceptical. He's apparently definitely got a part, but I don't think he's right for Flagg and would be surprised if it's true. I'm thinking minor character.

One of the lesser characters in Vegas then? Or the guy that gets killed by Flagg after the Judge is shot biggrin

I'm a big King fan. I have yet to enjoy a King horror film. Some things just work better in print.

Obviously - Shawshank and Running Man are epic, but they're not horror films =)
The Running Man story was done no favours being brought to film IMO. Shawshank was a good movie in its own right, but nuance was lost on conversion to film. Agreed King is actually pretty difficult to translate accurately from print to screen, especially some of the early stuff, which is presumably why no one has tried any other of the Bachman Books.

Maybe the guy in prison who is considering eating his cellmate?

Just had a look to see if this is in my local library, 1400+ pages! Bloody hell, I can't hold that and read it on the tube!

Don't read the short version - There's quite a lot missing in comparison...

I've seen some reviews that didn't like it starting in the middle. I've not seen or read it, so won't know any better.

Just spotted today 13th June 2021 that this is available on Amazon Prime and wondered if anyone has seen it and what they thought.

Watched it all. It's ok - starts well enough, has some strong scenes and moments, but ultimately felt weaker as it got closer to the season end.
If you've spare time then sure, give it a try. But if your viewing time is limited I'm not sure I could recommend it if you've other stuff you are enjoying.

I've, erm, downloaded this (allegedly) but I also made the mistake of reading the reddit thread for it - It's somewhat put me off. I've watched the first one too and it didn't fill me with joy...

Same. Loved the book when I read it a million years ago, but didn't gel with the first episode at all. A real shame.

Plus no Molly either.

The only filmed bit of this you'll ever need to watch is the intro of the original miniseries.

Beyond that it's just too complicated to film properly, a bit like the Dark Tower was. A good book doesn't necessarily translate well to the screen.
