So you could ditch Sky altogether and Apple TV or Now TV for £6.99 a month to watch Sky Atlantic?
Maybe! I'll be looking into it...
So long as BT Openreach sort out my cabinet for fibre...this could be an option for me.

I love how Sky bid millions over the odds for Premier League football then simply pass the cost on to their customers. Genius
Yep and I was one of those football mad customers who decided enough is enough.
That's pretty much where I am. Not had the price increase letter yet but I won't be paying it. I will miss the football but seriously as you say enough is enough.

It seem my posts in this topic have been was deleted for being advertising. It was not advertising. I have absolutely no connection with the company or service I suggested and it was just one of the top links in Google for these services. How come people can recommend sky but competing alternatives are censored?

AIH there are many very similar services available that stream European Television over broadband and searching Google, ebay or Amazon will reveal these.

+1

When that price increase letter comes in, they will be getting a call from me.

Just had the first chasing call from sky.

Offered variety with movies for £23 a month. Supposedly half price? And first two months free.

Turned it down as we have pretty much decided to try something new.

And the sky box is increasingly failing recordings, so is possibly on its way out.

If we get another, improved offer (with a new box, multi room, boxsets and sky go extra) before I ring BT, they may keep me.

To be honest, it's this underhanded nonsense that makes me want to leave more than anything. The best price should just be the best price, hate the gamesmanship.

Your cabinet getting upgraded?
It's scheduled for later in the year. It's ridiculous we don't have fibre already, we live in the centre of a town of over 75,000, on the edge of a development of 70 houses about half a mile from the exchange but apparently there hasn't been enough demand from residents to make if commercially viable so the county council is lending a hand (hopefully). Openreach were poking about before Christmas but I'm not holding my breath...

Go into your deleted recordings and select Permanently Delete on every one and restart sky box.

Gave up on Sky a long time ago because of this. Why can't fans as a collective get together and say that £300k p/week is ridiculous and we won't be paying another penny towards perpetuating this f***ing nonsense.

Oh yeah 'cos flootball flans iz moronz...

Because thre are plenty of others on then Eason ticket waiting list ready to take their places?

I agree though, they're treated as customers and profit sources, not supporters.

The F1 coverage means they have me over a barrel, albeit I am on an older deal where I pay for HD and F1 is included.

If that ever changes and I have to pay for the full sports package Sky can stick it. Actually if I found a cheaper way to watch F1 they can also stick it.

Buy a NOWTV box and pay for the F1 when its not on the BBC, you can buy the day passes on Ebay for a little as £2.50 to around the £4.00 mark.

SkyGo. smile

Find someone who pays for Sky and get them to let you use their SkyGo login and watch on laptop/tablet or whatever.

I've only watched TV on my laptop since my TV broke a couple of years ago. I use my parents SkyGo for F1, iPlayer, 4Od, Demand5 (rarely!) and Youtube for TV and Netflix for box sets. Although since I discovered Coke & Popcorn (brilliant) and Adfah I'm thinking of cutting out that £5.99/m as well.

No TV, no TV licence, £5.99 for Netflix and I can watch just about anything I want. I think I might be able to get some BT TV as well, haven't even checked tbh. I'm no expert on tech but I think you can watch most of that on a normal TV if there's more than one watching.

Paying for TV is so 2005.

The trouble with that is, if everyone paid nothing, how would new shows ever get made? They don't do it for free.

You could also try a planner rebuild.

We are also cancelling the TV element of our Sky subscription. Fed up of the monthly charge, especially when I am away during the week and the missus only watches a select few programmes. I just got off the phone with customer services who informed me that we are able to cancel at any time so now I am weighing up our options...

Do we go out and buy a Humax Freesat HD Box with the Freetime feature? (I understand this to be the closest we will get to having Sky+ albeit with different UI and channel options).

Or do we purchase a Freesat card for £25 from Sky and keep the existing equipment? (Unsure if we can use the existing equipment for recording and catch up TV?

Any info/advice on the above greatly appreciated. Also, are there any other options worth considering?

Sky charge about a tenner a month to enable recording. I think you lose recorded programs that were recorded under subscription and no catch up.

I'm looking to cancel next month and getting Humax boxes. Got a Fire TV stick ordered and already have NowTV.

We've had BT infinity for about a year now, but hadn't got round to kicking the Sky habit.

Phone call was made this weekend, our service will end on 29th April.

Plan is to go for BT tv, with a Now TV subscription so we can watch Game of Thrones.

They tried to keep us with Sky, at least a bit, by offering £43 a month instead of £61. I pointed out I was looking at spending about £15 with my new option, but they couldn't/wouldn't go that low.

I reckon if they'd gone half price on me, I'd have caved in for another year, but it wasn't to be.

So what do I need to know about BTs TV offering?
I'd been with Sky for 15 - 17 years or so. I phoned them to cancel and was given the retention chap. I told him what I was going to pay £15 to BT for my choice and asked them what their best deal was for that. I was told £28, which included a couple of additional channels. I'd got the menu in front of me and I was surprised to see that there was no reduction. I put this to the chap and he admitted it. If they'd offered, say, £20 I'd have gone for it, but I'm glad they didn't as I've now got Netflix.

I kept the Sky box and when my TV aerial sprung a leak, reducing the signal, I put the Sky box back to get the Freeview bit. The following day the aerial was replaced, giving a much better image, and now I can record two programmes whilst watching a third. OK, so we've only done that once, and we could have watched one of them on iPlayer, but it is convenient.

One thing, though: the non-HD signal on Sky is noticeably lower quality than the standard signal on BT.
I'd be interested in opinions on BT TV too. Our new house has Infinity and is also listed so erecting a Sky dish could be problematic.

I'm please with my decision and happy with BT TV. That said, it is horses for courses.

I'm big on rugby so it's just the thing for me.

The range of channels is good, the image is great. I bought a big TV and then went for HD and that's one of my better decisions.

I don't watch that much TV, or didn't until we got Netflix (for free) and that's changed a bit.

One downside is that there's no Disney and my grandkids like it but then I record Peppa Pig and such, so they are not that worried.

Rugby commentary is much improved on BT Sport. By some distance.

The downside: After more than 15 years with Sky the channel selection system took some getting used to. I thought I'd soon get used to it but I still think the Sky is easier to use.

No Sky Atlantic, which I used to watch two programmes on each week, but Netflix soon made me forget that.

I like F1 will use NowTV for the non-BBC broadcasts or rather just five of them, so major savings there.

There's no way I'd go back to Sky at the moment, especially so now that the price has gone up yet again.

Any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Derek
