Any decent deals to be done on Sky Q? I've had Sky for 14+ years and also have my fibre broadband and line rental with Sky, i'd like to watch the F1 in UHD, I have a capable TV but only a Sky+ HD box.

Friend of a friend sent me an offer code via email, £12 extra per month and £60 install fee for the 2TB Sky Q box, was hoping for something better to be honest. Already paying £83 to Sky every month, don't want that going up to £95.

I'm not sure that UHD is that much better than HD. Having just gone from being a Skycustomer of 16 years I upgraded to SkyQ and I'm a bit underwhelmed by the experience. I only pay £80 pm but had to threaten to leave to get that price. Others have got better deals I gather by going down this route. One thing I do miss with SkyQ is tha there's no reminder facility something I used a lot. If I could go back to Sky+ I would do so but it's no longer available once you've left it.

My subscription has now lapsed after 18 years, and I have moved over to Freesat. TBH I don't miss it at all. I'll probably look at NOW TV when GoT is back, but that is about it.

Hi bad company, I've just pinged you an email regarding something similar. I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to see if you could work your magic for myself please.

Many thanks,

John.

Hi John

I got your email but happy to respond here. I haven't got any influence or 'magic' to share. I simply contact them towards the end of my contract and say I'm leaving Sky. That way you get through to retentions which is where you get the best deals. This time I was able to change my broadband and telephone contract in addition to tv as I was near the end of my BT deal.

I would phone them and see what they offer. Make a note of what they come up with and post it on here before agreeing to go ahead. That way you can compare with whatever has been offered to others on PH.

Good luck!

I think you may be thinking of b4gga83 who is the resident provider of the Sky renewal magic. I spoke to him when I was at renewal and although I didn't take up his offer (due to lack of Fiber in my area) he was extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

I mailed Bagga to help me find a deal. He mailed back for my phone number and never rang me!!!! Spoke to Sky myself and got 40% off without any hassle.

I've been paying £38 a month for a year, incl all the usual channels and box sets except Movies and Sport. Taking voluntary redundancy so rang to cancel today. Within 2 minutes they'd offered me 40% off and then when that didn't work, offered me the basic package plus Sky Atlantic for £11 a month. Still wasn't interested so they processed my cancellation without further ado. No doubt I can expect a few phone calls over the next couple of months though.

But my reason did work pretty well, no real hassle from them. Perhaps useful for those wanting to cancel (along with the "I'm emigrating" excuse) - or just those wanting a discount.

People are paying almost £1000 a year to Sky? Jeez

My latest deal is £15 for line rental and free broadband (not fibre)

I did get free fibre for a year but it would be another £10 to have it this year.

Each time I speak to SKY they are desperate to sell me their TV service so I would say big deals to be had- esp if you can join as a new customer.

Well the installation all went tits up so I'm back to square one. I live in a very old property and the new Sky Q boxes would not communicate through the internal walls so the engineer took the whole lot away.

The annoying thing is that Sky now want me to carry on paying as above but carry on with the old HD boxes which are nothing like as good. I told them no, I'm off.

Thinking of putting the broadband and phones back with BT and just using Freeview. frown

Perhaps I'll feel better about it in the morning.

Stupid question, but if people want the Sky Entertainment channels why not simply use Now TV? Buying the boxes when they are on offer every few months you get the Entertainment package for under £3.50 a month. Sure it is not an exact match, but for the price difference.

Does that include Sport?

As Flip Martian said they were paying for the "usual channels and box sets except Movies and Sport" and had been offered "the basic package plus Sky Atlantic for £11".

So I wondered why someone would pay a (discounted) £11 rather than a (discounted) £3.50.

Quite agree about the Now boxes - and many seem to have gone for them, hence their retention offers I suppose!

I think that the idea with the NowTV service was to capture people who wouldn't pay a satellite sub at all but who were tempted by the programmes on offer, enough to pay for them.

However, seems that it's tempting enough to actually cannibalise Sky's satellite business, tempting people off of contracts and onto the more PAYG structure of NowTV.

Sky are in a bit of a quandry - they know that the market in general will migrate to streaming services no matter what, so they can't just ignore that technology, they need to be a leading player there too.
