I did this deal for broadband, tv and phone:-

Tv inc sport. £32.75
Multi screen. 12.00
Fibre max. 16.01
Anytime calls. 8.00
Line rent. 9.99
Caller display. 0.00

TOTAL. £78.75
Well the installation all went tits up so I'm back to square one. I live in a very old property and the new Sky Q boxes would not communicate through the internal walls so the engineer took the whole lot away.

The annoying thing is that Sky now want me to carry on paying as above but carry on with the old HD boxes which are nothing like as good. I told them no, I'm off.

Thinking of putting the broadband and phones back with BT and just using Freeview. frown

Perhaps I'll feel better about it in the morning.
Did they sent a specialist Q engineer who should have offered to cable the boxes together?

I thought the Q boxes had powerline technology built in, so used the mains wiring to communicate?

Although I don't have Sky TV, I have Sky Fibre Broadband with a Q router and a Q WiFi extender and those do.

Quite agree about the Now boxes - and many seem to have gone for them, hence their retention offers I suppose!
I think that the idea with the NowTV service was to capture people who wouldn't pay a satellite sub at all but who were tempted by the programmes on offer, enough to pay for them.

However, seems that it's tempting enough to actually cannibalise Sky's satellite business, tempting people off of contracts and onto the more PAYG structure of NowTV.

Sky are in a bit of a quandry - they know that the market in general will migrate to streaming services no matter what, so they can't just ignore that technology, they need to be a leading player there too.
They've announced that there will be a satellite-less version of Q coming next year.. it won't be replacing the mainstream satellite service, but is designed to sit between Now Tv and full far Q.

I mailed Bagga to help me find a deal. He mailed back for my phone number and never rang me!!!! Spoke to Sky myself and got 40% off without any hassle.
Well Bagga sorted me
sky q 2TB and multiroom(mini box)
all channels
sports/movies for £47 p/month
install took a while as booster box also required.

I was paying £44 for Sky HD no multiroom and no movies and no sport

Bagga is 1st class IMHO

Yes the Q boxes have powerline built in but switched off for the time being. Nobody seems to know when it will be turned on.

People are paying almost £1000 a year to Sky? Jeez

My latest deal is £15 for line rental and free broadband (not fibre)

I did get free fibre for a year but it would be another £10 to have it this year.

Each time I speak to SKY they are desperate to sell me their TV service so I would say big deals to be had- esp if you can join as a new customer.
You can currently get any TV package for 67% off for 12 months as a BB and Talk customer. 12m contract too.

Stupid question, but if people want the Sky Entertainment channels why not simply use Now TV? Buying the boxes when they are on offer every few months you get the Entertainment package for under £3.50 a month. Sure it is not an exact match, but for the price difference.
Does that include Sport?
No.
As Flip Martian said they were paying for the "usual channels and box sets except Movies and Sport" and had been offered "the basic package plus Sky Atlantic for £11".

So I wondered why someone would pay a (discounted) £11 rather than a (discounted) £3.50.
Ability to record, much nicer guide, watch other channels without changing input and much better live to picture quality. Some people may not have decent speed of broadband either.

As I mentioned before, I don't have Sky TV, but the built in powerline is turned on in my Sky Q router and Sky Q WiFi extender.

However a quick Google shows powerline is functional now in the Sky Q TV and mini boxes, just turned off as it is not supported yet. If you want to take the risk of turning it on you can in the engineers menu -

Press 'Home' button on remote
Scroll down to settings (but do not press anything)
Type 0001 and press the 'Select/ok' button on the remote
This will bring up the hidden settings menu, from here select network, and enable the powerline feature.
Don't forget to scroll down and press 'Save' at the bottom

Record - Why if you an stream it anytime from the Now TV box? Watch other channels without changing input - I suppose, but is a weak reason. Much better live tv picture quality - Can't say I have noticed as only watch the non-live stuff,

Slow broadband - fair enough.

My discounts are about to end so I am doing the dance with Retentions. The packages seem to have all changed which is making it hard to gauge relative competiveness, but as far as I can work out I am being offered 53/month for what is available for £75/month priced on their website.

Has anybody had any recent experience of discounts available?
TIA!

I got pretty much the same price offered yesterday.

Have processed cancelation and offer on stay with sky is so far 30% off for 12 months.

Will leave it and see how it goes over next few weeks.

Having threatened to leave Sky many, many times and always been offered 1/2 price with only minor Mexican stand offs - if at all - Ive just phoned up to politely downgrade our 'full works' package as we're not using it as much as we did.

Guy asked why - because Netflix - and immediately gave me a 40% discount as long as I locked into 18 months.

To be honest I was too lazy to turn him down.

Cheers

I tried to go for Sky Q but they couldn’t get the Q boxes to communicate with each other through the walls so took it all away.

I’m looking to try again when they send the signal through WiFi / Broadband rather than a dish. Anybody know when this is due to happen?

They're launching dishless Q in mainland Europe later this year and it'll arrive in the UK either end of this year or next.. It won't replace dish Q though - it's an additional product for those who can't or won't have a dish. Certainly won't fix your problems - the best solution for that would be hard wiring them with Cat 5/6 cable.

Powerline is more appealing than running cables around the house. The problem was a 500+ year old inglenook fireplace blocking the signal between the Q boxes. I thought with the new WiFi arrangement each box would get its own signal from the router?

The current Q setup will mesh between boxes, routers and boosters to get a network - if that doesn't work for you then the dishless Q certainly won't.
You're better off with power line or cabling.

Thanks for that. Would the Powerline in the Q boxes do the job? They were not switched on when the Sky engineer tried to install the boxes.

Probably not - it's a very old version (55Mbps I think) and is likely to be disabled in future updates. I'd just get a 500Mbps external set.

Many thanks for your help and please excuse my ignorance.

I have Powerline now the units are 200Mbps they work ok for surfing the internet and emails etc., but often cut out when I’m trying to stream the radio. Apparently it’s caused by ‘noise’ interference. Would a mesh network work better?
