Yes I quite agree with your point about overheads. I'm sure the restorer guy doesnt come cheap, I meant more when he gives it to the lads in the back (already on the payroll) who degrease it, whack a bit of beeswax on it and bobs your uncle. 300% mark up and laughing all the way to the bank.
He is now on an industrial estate in a unit a fraction of the size of the old placezeb said:
Which he happily informs us he sold for a tidy profit. Good luck to the guy, clearly works hard for it, I just look wide eyed at some of the mark ups ...thats all.
It's been a lot better since they started showing the Restoration Cost on the projected profit. In fairness, he is often very up-front and honest in his offers.
It's quite scary what kind of markup you need to have when you have major outgoings like premises and staff. My ex ran an online business and rented a small warehouse / office, and I was stunned by the outgoings and how much stuff had to be sold at profit in order to even break even. Especially when stock can sit on the shelves for ages, tying up capital.
Also, don't forget that he often buys from people who are not VAT-registered, but has to put VAT on his prices, so is giving 20% of the price on his sales straight to the tax man.

It's 16.7%, and I would imagine he is using the VAT Margin scheme so only pays the VAT on the difference between his buying and selling price. Before this series started I was talking to a dealer who said Drew was selling his house as he'd split from his wife. He said she owned the buildings and that's why he was moving to the smaller unit. I have noticed that they don't say wife Rebecca on the new series where as they did on the old ones. Not sure how true it is but he's not really going to say all that on tv.
He has a showroom in Tetbury Glos;
I am opening a satellite shop in Tetbury, Gloucestershire and that will be great as it means we’ll be closer to our shippers, as most of my clients are international.
“Although our Glan Conwy base is going, I am looking for a new place in Conwy for storage and the renovation work.”
“Ideally I’d like one in the town itself, but it has to be the right place and size.
“I’ve bought a new house in Conwy, and am looking forward to renovating it and being able to walk to work.”
Drew’s old house, a former chapel built in 1812 is up for sale for £795,000.
I have been to his shop in Liberty a few years ago, but don't think it is there any more
He also has a separate car selling business

Blimey, does he still have that VW static engine for sale? He bought that on Salvage Hunters ages ago! He also has a separate car selling business

Just shows how much money gets tied up in stock for extended periods of time.

Confirmed here, quite sad actually, they seemed a decent match for each other.http://www.unitedagents.co.uk/rebecca-pritchard
Drew reminds me of the Harry Enfield character who runs a shop called "I saw you coming"

I watched one last night that seemed to be quite new, but did have a watermark saying the new series is on tonight. They were at the Llandudno premises by then. Enjoyable, but only more so than the older repeats because it wasn't a repeat, if you see what I mean - it's the places and stuff that makes the interest for me.
