I got the completely wrong end of the stick last night. Hadn't realised that he was day-dreaming at the end and assumed she was giving him a happy ending under the steering wheel sperm

Peter Kay isn't exactly without form for quitting while he's ahead. Phoenix Nights only ran for two series and 12 episodes. The Max & Paddy spin off only ran for one series.

That said, he's a showman and he knows how to milk an audience. It wouldn't surprise me at all for him to have an apparent change of heart and to announce maybe next year a Christmas special which gives people the closure most seem to be clamouring for, a la Gervais/The Office.

Personally, I think it left it in a reasonable place. I wouldn't mind too much if that was that and he stuck to his word.

I think they've probably called it a day because the natural progression from the end of series 2 is for them both to get it on which is what everyone was hoping for. The problem there is that they are close friends in real life, but not in a sexual way so it would get very awkward, especially if Peter and Sian have real life partners.

I've not seen season 1 but I enjoyed season 2 as they both "bounce" off each other well, but I thought it was painfully slow going in places. The first half of ep 1 was particularly dull for me as a first time viewer and it only really started to pique my interest with the camera wielding cyclist scene. Also ep 2 with the drunk tranny dragged on for wayyyyyyyyy too long and nearly had me switching off. Eps 3 and 4 were decent but I still felt they were missing a certain something.

Not on a patch of Phoenix Nights imho but certainly better than a lot of dross that's on the box these days.
I'd suggest that you actually don't like the programme then.

For me, this series was weaker for all the added characters and stuff away from the car. The original was genius as it was almost entirely just the two of them, in the car, talking. (and, of course, that awesome radio station and its ads). The most dull premise for a show, yet so, so well written and delivered.

Cynically him doing TV stuff (I enjoyed the series) is just advertising for tours which is were he will make the real money, of course he probably enjoys the TV stuff because its easy and he doesn't write it, he then will go on to do stand up doing the same act over and over for months on end.

He was one of the writers on it, it had him all over it in terms of references and dialogue.

I dont think he is massively motivated by money, he seems to pick and choose what he does and by and large it is high quality.

I kind of like that they didnt do the romantic ending, it worked in the office but not everything pans out like that in real life, his previous experiences, lack of perception and awkwardness with the opposite sex prevented it, it was close but didnt happen, who doesnt have a "might have been" in their past.

He is doing a big two fingered gesture there, played us and then it didnt happen, I think that has rattled a few, like the good guys winning the guy must get the girl or vice versa, but they dont have to.

It's acting.
It's one of his best friends. Acting or no acting, it's going to be awkward snogging your best friend of the opposite sex just on that alone, and especially so if they have real life partners.

Seriously?

You think the entire script was defined and written and the series ended the way it did because they were not professional enough to share a 5 second screen kiss because of their friendship and the desire not to upset their (obviously in your opinion) very immature partners, who simply wouldn't be able to deal with it, because they can't separate acting from real life?

You truly believe that?

Yes, I do think that has probably played a part in them deciding to terminate the series where they have. These aren't 2 random actors that never knew each other prior to working on the series, these are 2 people that have been good friends since school and no matter how much you scoff at it, that is going to be awkward snogging each other, act or no act.

I think you'll find they are professionals - I'm sure they can differentiate between "acting" and "real life"...

It's work. It's acting. A TV company and an entire production is not going be guided by their friendship. It ended the way it did and it was written that way because it left us wanting more, not because they are worried about their partners. rolleyes

You do realise that they did actually kiss each other on the show? Pretty sure they are not now running off into the sunset together.

PK is wasted on stand up - he gets the laughs , the audience love every second and he can do it asleep. I'd venture to suggest to the person who said writing TV stuff was easy had never tried to do it himself...There are too many examples of what happens when a script is even slightly 'out '. Phoenix Nights is still PK's best ever work but Car Share comes damn close .

Agreed, if actors couldn't deal with kissing on set when they are mates, the entire soap opera industry would end.

There is a massive difference between two people kissing because they want to, and two people kissing on set, on demand, with a cast and crew around them.

It's back! (as revealed by Peter Kay on Children in need)....two episodes next year, one following the story and giving us the ending we all want I would assume? .....and another episode unscripted, just them dicking about.

No, I misheard - it's next year, as stated.

Haven't storylines already been stretched to excess? I think this is one which should have gone out on a high rather than pander to demand.

It's not a new series, the second series is being repeated and then a new 'special' episode will give everyone the ending they want.

The second series is being repeated and then there are 2 new episodes.

The first is unscripted which should be great to see how they can ad-lib this sort of material. The second is the "ending" episode.
