We don't know if it was the real Ford or a host Ford that got shot (there's still that host being constructed in the original tech room under the house. Or of course it could be more flashbacks.

Probably flashbacks, at a guess.

LOoks good, but the question of where will or can they go with it comes up again. Will the story expand, reminds me of Wayward PInes, once the secret was revealed where could it go? But it went in an excellent direction.

Must admit I thought the first trailer was better. Although the shot of Arnold/Bernard and Dolores grinning rather evilly was decidedly creepy.

http://ew.com/tv/2018/02/05/jonathan-nolan-westwor...

Jonathan Nolan explaining that new trailer - it was designed to emulate the style of a car ad, specifically for the Superbowl. And the shot at the end of Dolores isn't in the actual series - but the rest is.

And Jonathan Nolan apparently thinks Kanye West is a genius.

I'm going to try to ensure knowing that doesn't spoil my enjoyment of season 2... hehe

Just blitzed the first series and loved it. The deep exploration of consciousness, the character development and the way they knit the timeline together are all superb. The concept of suffering igniting consciousness is a bit contrived, children naturally become conscious without that, but on the whole it's fun and thought provoking.

I'll enjoy watching the whole thing again. The ethics surrounding AI is fascinating; well worth listening to Sam Harris' recent podcasts on the subject.
At first, I didn't much like it, I thought the pacing was way too glacial.

However, I have watched it twice since and bought the 4k BR box set and, like the new Blade Runner film, I absolutely adore it. Am very much looking forward to Season 2, more so than Game of Thrones!

Same here

After the last season I am not actually that bothered if they finish GOT off or not to be honest. It quickly became glaringly apparent that all they have after the point the books have reached is a few sketchy notes and have no idea how to fill in the gaps.

Yeah, it's a bit sad how quickly it has deteriorated

Agree Blade Runner 2049 is quality sci-fi.

AI is a sci-fi concept which will inevitably happen in real life, and the ethical issues are very interesting. I think we may need to redefine human rights as "people" rights; if one can agree consciousness is what actually defines a person.

The opportunities are also fascinating, imagine living forever, learning at a geometric rate, and being able to physically explore the cosmos. I'd like to see a sci-fi in the style of The Martian which explores this positive side.
Learning at a geometric rate until they hardware limitations are reached - which they will very quickly.

I've heard some quite fantastical estimations regarding the capacity of the human brain - estimations that far exceed most integrated computer systems.

I know the internet effectively integrates machines but the speeds are slow compared to a synapse.

They do say the AI singularity will happen this century though, but I suspect it'll be quite low grade until the capacity of integrated processing and storage are tied together with quick pathways.
