It doesn’t seem to take them that long? A season a year is about right.
I can’t see it ending at the end of this one - I reckon they’d like to take it out to Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and The Wire kinda territory of 5/6 seasons.
1st season started broadcasting Oct 2016. 2nd: April 2018. Just under 18 months from the end of 1 to the start of the next - and they're only 10 episodes, not the usual 20-26 many other series usually do in the US. Don't forget the actor who played Kissy in the very 1st episode died in Dec 2014 - nearly 2 years before broadcast. The makers themselves have said "it takes a long time to make".I can’t see it ending at the end of this one - I reckon they’d like to take it out to Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and The Wire kinda territory of 5/6 seasons.
And it won't apparently end with this one - just seen online it got renewed for Season 3 a few weeks ago. I hope they keep the standard up.
Serial dramas, the higher quality US stuff is normally 10-12 eps a series. That's normal for HBO, some a tad shorter, 8, some go to 13. HBO historically like runs of around 6 series, they fudge things when they need to, like the last series of Sopranos and GoT by having a .5 season.
The whole of the first two series has taken place over many decades, but the current/contemporary (actually as I type this, I guess the contemporary timeline is the one with Floki from Vikings) timeline is about a week. Preston had an interesting theory that maybe the Floki timeline is a year later.

I mentioned in the thread earlier that it’s slated and written for 4/5 years. That was quoted by jj Abrams.
I still have no idea what’s going on but thoroughly enjoying it.
I thought the latest episode with parallels between shogun world and west world was interesting. I appreciated the fact that the bordello in WW and the geisha house in SW were exactly the same building (but dressed differently).

I much preferred season 1 thus far. Season 1 was a fair bit more realistic than S2 IMO. Season 2 in my opinion warrants more than its fair share of suspension of disbelief. I can't explain it... It just feels vastly different to me; the characters personalities I mean. Geez, somehow I forgot her name in the show some how. The main female chaaracter, not Maive, the blonde woman is whom I am referring to... IMO her character just comes across as silly at times when she begins to present herself as an all knowing bad ass... Which she is, but like i said at times it just feels all too overdone at times.
And now to Maive. The Japanese story is fairly entertaining but i would have preferred Ancient Rome instead. And what's with Maives sudden newfound "power". Again, it seems a bit silly to me IMO although I do understand how it is able to work since all the hosts are in theory (and actually) all connected like a web with a centralized brain.
Not knowing anything else at all other than what I know from the show, I personally can't figure out where in the world the story line is going.

I really liked the recent episode..
Dolores - you just got the feeling she was going to kill Teddy.... especially after going to bed with him. Then he seemed safe and then she seemed to not be satisfied with him loving her due to his programming.
Maeve - thought that was excellently done. She thought she was omnipotent - but then had to overcome the language barrier. Overcame that, then got gagged and the Samurai warlord - I thought he'd 'plugged' their ears with wool or similar - but no altogether a more extreme solution. Then she willed them to expire...! She's definitely a survivor and resourceful. But even with all her powers she couldn't save Sakura, that hurt Maeve.
Definitely quite a few poignant moments in that episode.

Delores checking Bernard's fidelity... means she believes Arnold is in there?.. like the way William was checking host-James's fidelity.
I think the Ghost Nation is only Ford's to control, and the fact Akacheta asked Maeve to join him "because we're looking for the same thing" reinforces my belief.
I'll be disappointed if that's the last we see of Hiroyuki Sanada (Musashi).
Computer systems: we have the main one in the Mesa, and the cradle which was positioned as the back-up but may now be autonomous in its own right?
Emily... William's first reaction was to believe she was a host. Seems an odd reaction. Is she dead already in the real world?

He played Hanzee in series 2 of Fargo, so he's always got an escape plan. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
