My problem with S2 was the amount of nonsensical chopping about of the timeline, flash forward / flashback... most of it was unnecessary and all of it was jarring. The resolution of the hosts was pretty lame too.
Hmm, I thought that the resolution for the hosts (their whole religion about a promised land) was really well executed and made perfect sense. They got to go live in a Utopia (uploaded to their own private VR Cradle) and Ford got his revenge on Delos as they lost their 'intellectual property' (ie. the complex programming driving the hosts) as a result. A really good resolution to the mystery.
Really like the look of the new trailer. Season 1 enthralled me because of the landscapes, clever twists and allusions to computer game style Easter eggs playing out at large. At first I was looking forward to enjoying Wild West stories with an underlying Sci-Fi plot playing out underneath it, but quickly realised it wasn't really a cowboy story at all - that was just a veneer.
I also love near-future aesthetic stuff. Blade Runner is incredible but the world that it's set in is almost unrecognisable to today, even though it covered all the same kind of story beats as WW went on to do. I love it when things look like they could almost realistically come about in my life time - I think that's why I find Black Mirror so engaging. The self driving bikes, cars, and flying cars in the trailer actually feel like they are a million times closer to our grasp than replicant humans, so the classic futuristic stuff doesn't put me off, and it looks like they haven't gone too far with it beyond the tech we have already come to accept in the previous seasons.

I have no proof, but I suspect this trailer is a bit of misdirection. And the series will not be like we think it is.
Probably because S2 got such st ratings, they are terrified people wont watch it
If that 2nd part is true, why then show a complete misdirection as a trailer, which makes it look nothing like the series? It would just put more WW fans off, surely? Unless they want to drag in the "generic crime/drama tv" audience maybe.Probably because S2 got such st ratings, they are terrified people wont watch it

I'm not so sure. The whole ting up to now has essentially been a jail break story. Seems to fit that we'll be leaving the parks behind now, as we deal with this 'new breed' of sentient hosts.Probably because S2 got such st ratings, they are terrified people wont watch it
Although - I do wonder if perhaps there might be an "Underworld" park, where it looks and feels like real life, but you can live out GTA style fantasies as yourself. It could work since the trailer suggests that Arron Paul is a builder or labourer by day and crim by night - but perhaps thats just him playing the 'game'. It would also let them do the kind of non-linear, rug pull type twists that they like to do on the show, where we can never be sure if what we are seeing is happening in the real world or Underworld if they look identical. There's a shot of him scrolling down his phone picking 'jobs' offering different cash rewards - could be in the in-game interface (exactly like GTA!).
I still think the premise is great if its just all outside world stuff now though.

He talks in the V/O at the end of "if I want to get on with my life I need to find something or someone real" too. Kinda makes more sense that way.

That looks far better than the previous trailer - they've clearly been watching the internet. I hope S3 shows more of the S1 genius than S2 did. Could still do without the angry corporate short lady though.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
