Deadpool = proper rated R Disney/Marvell film
Discussion
Unfortunately in the majority of cases, films are made by committee which is sort of understandable given the huge budgets involved. Unfortunately the people with the money making the decisions aren't naturally going to be in tune or even aware of the nuances and 30+ years of back-story that a lot of these characters have.
They will do anything which is likely to increase the chance of a return on their investment which means if an R rated movie was successful, we will get R-rated movies until it stops working or something else comes along. The same thing happened with the "dark and gritty" movement that occurred last time round where for years we got dark and gritty for films which didn't even suit that tone. Hollywood is a dumb, lumbering beast that follows it's money-making instinct almost blindly which is why I take the good films when they come and am not surprised at the amount average they produce.

Good to see Dredd at number 1.....anyone who has not seen it.....go buy it...turn up the volume and watch it now...!
I bought the DVD, the blueray and on amazon to help get the figures up.It was the US distributor who CBA advertising it that made it fail in the cinemas in the US, not the film.

Agreed, brilliant film. I really really hope they make a sequel with a slightly better budget. It was the US distributor who CBA advertising it that made it fail in the cinemas in the US, not the film.

Remember, with great power larger budget comes great responsibility more interference from the bean counters.
I really enjoyed the film, but raised expectations for a sequel could lead to a big letdown when it all arrives. If it's only 'quite good', it will be seen as a failure.
^^^^ This, I think this film worked because it was made by people who really wanted to make a proper Deadpool movie and they managed to persuade someone to take a small gamble on their vision, £50m is nothing for a film of this nature. Given it's success though, I'd expect the sequels budget to be tripled which will bring a whole host of other decision makers into the frame and with increased budget will come increased risk aversion.I really enjoyed the film, but raised expectations for a sequel could lead to a big letdown when it all arrives. Just box office. Home revenue is $620 million (for the first 6 films, $70mill for the last one). Potter made over 3 billion home revenue.Guvernator said:

Like the Expendables;1 - 18
2 - 15
3 - 12
Turned out to be a joke in the end chasing the money
One hopes that studios would be smart enough to see that a big budget would not be required for a sequel, merely letting the same creative team and Reynolds do their thing.
It's a shame Jackman is hanging up his claws, I can see an R-Rated Deadpool vs Wolverine making some serious cash.

Although Kick Ass 2 wasn't as good as Kick Ass, it had a smaller budget.
Deadpool 2 with have a small budget says writers - http://www.gamespot.com/articles/deadpool-sequel-w...

Watched it last night and didnt have expectations, and thought it was awful. Worst film I have seen this year.
People were actually walking out which I have not seen happpn for a while.
Eta - my mate who I was with loved it, and it seems to be getting rave reviews, so it must be me. I normally enjoy almost any film. It just felt a bit try hard to be funny.
The girl from Homeland is smoking, she looks younger in Deadpool which is 5 years later than Homeland

Superb film - they obviously didn't have a huge budget for vfx and sets like the earlier Stallone travesty but Karl Urban really nailed the Dredd character. It was the US distributor who CBA advertising it that made it fail in the cinemas in the US, not the film.
Great 3D on the bluray, too.
If the current mania for R rated comic book/superhero movies results in 'Dredd 2' it will have been worth it.
