I'm not trying to be irritatingly cryptic, just to see whether it registered on more than one level. It's a cops & robbers show right? But it's more a commentary by the writers of the decline & fall of post war America. The themes it pushes the viewer towards build with each season, but you're looking at race, corruption, urban decline, education, the scourge of drugs & so on. If you can look at it from that viewpoint, then it starts to show its class.

Vacation, (2015)

Brain out comedy in the vein of the original, (but not as good as from memory).

Tomatoes gave it a rubbish score and I suppose its not a classic but, and here's where they are wrong, I cried with laughter in several places! Of course it may have been helped by a classic dry Riesling but enjoyable all the same, (my wife and daughter didn't laugh so much but i put that down to the male/female divide)!
Great film - re watched this the other day.

Safe to say i'll be buying Series 2 when i get home tonight.

With regards to the background and context, safe to say i'm not the best at noticing these things. However in considering Eddie's points it dawned on me that one of the more obvious contextual points made, namely the post 9/11 focus on terror to the exclusion of pretty much everything else, must have been quite a bold point to make back in 2002. I wonder if they got much stick back then for daring to question, or at least highlight the drawbacks of, the 'war on terror' at a time when America was having a dust up in Afghanistan.

The Emoji movie.

One of the the worst animated movies I have ever endured. I knew it was going to be bad, but not THAT bad.

Woeful plot, characters, voices, basically the whole film seems to be one long advert for certain apps and social media.

Absolute steaming turd of a film that someone needs to be slapped repeatedly for.

Do you see anything beyond the immediate story in it? Because if not, then it's just another police drama. The beauty in it lies in what's not in the actual script from one episode to another.
Exactly. Repeat viewings offer so much.

Just watched, loved it, very uncomfortable in places, laugh out loud in others, smiled all the way through

Bladerunner 2049 - 7/10

I like the first film but I'm not obsessed with it like some and perhaps you need to be a bit more into the first one.

I liked the cast, the writing and the overall message of the film.
I didn't like the music (nowhere near as good as the first one), the slight lack of pace.

It was occasionally complicated but that likely wasn't helped by me not being able to concentrate and drifting off (to sleep briefly even) a few times. The story always came good in the end and I enjoyed the ending.

It felt a little like it was setting things up for a big TV series, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

Finally got round to T2 Trainspotting this morning before work.
Obviously cant live up to the first one, but still a decent watch. You have to have seen the first one to really understand the plot in this one, despite some flashbacks and story line referring to the first it makes more sense to know what they're referencing.

6.5/10

The Hateful 8 - Tarantino's whodunnit. I kept putting this off due to mixed reviews but finally caught up with it on a long train journey today. Typically for Tarantino, dialogue heavy but not too annoying with the pointless side stories. Good ensemble cast, Jennifer Jason Leigh especially, and Morricone soundtrack, I quite enjoyed it. Not his best but entertaining all the same. More of a 7 than an 8.

Felt a pinch of nostalgia before the weekend and ended up ordering a bunch of Christopher Guest mockumentaries which I hadn't seen in ages:

Waiting for Guffman
Best in Show
A Mighty Wind

Arrived yesterday and I watched them all; loved them. I see there is a more recent film of his I hadn't heard of - For Your Consideration - will need to check it out.
Best in show is marvellous.

Eugene Levy's wife has nailed half the US which is painfully funny. If you know dogs, you'll love the charicatures of all the owners.

Love it smile

We watched this at the cinema, and quite enjoyed it. A lot more 'gritty' than I imagined, as I thought it would be like a female John Wick. With that in mind, I did have to stretch my suspension of disbelief to breaking point.

This shows a few flaws perfectly (and quite funny..)

Finally got around to watching The Big Short. After a very awkward opening 10 minutes it becomes utterly captivating. Great performances and very clever methods of explaining horribly complex/boring financial stuff necessary to following the plot.

Loved it, can’t believe it had taken this long for me to get around to seeing it.

The Gumball Rally again... probably the 30th time.

If you haven't seen it, watch it or you shouldn't be on Pistonheads.

A film of its time with a lot of actors now dead. Some of the trivia is great like the actors doing all their own driving (except for the Camaro on 2 wheels), often driving significantly over 120mph, and that bit in the LA river looked great fun.

The ragtime soundtrack was only beaten by the road of the Cobra V8 and howl of the Daytona V12.

It's not possible these days. Police departments talk to one another across borders and they would probably shoot you anyway. And there's simply too much traffic.

This is the pinnacle of movie making for me.

Eleventh Three / 4.

One of my favourite films and I was just thinking about it today because I need to watch it again. Was it on TV? I can probably catch up if it was.
Smokey and the Bandit (also the name of my 2 cats) was on today but I didn't get the chance to watch it. Gumball is better though.

Last Vegas.

Curiously charming without being especially funny. I liked it but can't really out my finger on why. 6.5 out of Aspirin.
