Films I watched this week
Discussion
Just finished watching Lucy after it was on last night.
Stupid. I bet it's a good film if you can switch your brain off, ironically. It wasn't just the stupid premise of unlocking the brains potential, but there were quite a few plot holes and even the basic parts of the film were unrealistic.
Something OK to have on in the background whilst finishing some emails. 4/10.

With the revelations about Spacey recently, his portrayal of one of the bosses is seriously sinister.
I wonder at how that will affect repeat viewings of old films. Spacey was great undergoing his mid-life-crisis in America Beauty, but I wonder how a rewatch would change his character from lost and faintly pathetic older man lusting after a cheerleader to predatory mastermind. It shouldn't make a difference but I think that it does eat away at the suspension of disbelief.glazbagun said:

He's an actor playing a role. The role is unaffected by what we know of the actor. Do people really need this explaining to them?
I must say that I enjoyed Robin Williams' portrayal of a robot in the film "The Bicentennial Man", but apparently after his suicide in 2014 they performed an autopsy and found he was completely human.
This has completely changed the film for me, and makes it much harder for me to suspend disbelief.

I agree with this. the fact Gary Glitter is an old paedo doesn't mean his songs are not still great.Do people really need this explaining to them?

No One Lives. Not sure why his was made, there are no protagonists in it, no one to root for. I looked on wiki, it was by WWE films. I guess trying to experiment is one thing, but there's gotta be at least one person we care for, otherwise why watch something as awful and silly as this?

I did the same, it's beyond stupid as a film.Stupid. I bet it's a good film if you can switch your brain off, ironically. It wasn't just the stupid premise of unlocking the brains potential, but there were quite a few plot holes and even the basic parts of the film were unrealistic.

I'm pretty good at switching my brain off but that was just absurd garbage.
i'd give it 1/10
The Killing of a Sacred Deer. C-Grade attempt at Kubrick. Interesting but doesn't quite come off. Hard to like or care about any of the (pretty weird) characters (except perhaps the ultimately doomed son).
Nicole Kidman definitely has fake boobs.

"The Body Stealers " Movies for men 1969 classic British Alien encounter film, bloody awful and bloody great at the same time.
George Sanders ,Patrick Allen and some bloke who looked like a Sean Connery stand in turns out he was called Neil Connery. Neil was so like his brother no wonder he didn't become as famous I think they even shared the same wig maker.

John Wick - I thoroughly enjoyed this. It is what it is - it's brain out action and shooting with additional humour. It's no Oscar winner, but I really like it. 9/10
