Jason Bourne
I watched the first film again last night, running through them before seeing the new one.
thats a good route to cinematic disappointment

I just watched Deadpool at home and it felt surprisingly flat. Yet I absolutely loved it first time around in a packed cinema with a clued up audience.

All well, that's probably the case with most film sequels, but I generally rewatch previous films in a series before seeing the newest one, so it's like watching a continuous story.

9pm tonight Film 4 - Out of the Furnace.
Grim, tense thriller.
One of my favourites, pacing is a little slow, but the acting and general feel is pretty dam good IMO
IMDB has it at 6.8 which seems harsh to me... meh, what do I know...
This...never heard of the film until Film4 showed it. Loved it, well acted all round and a great storyline. Had tones of The Machinist in it but I preferred this better.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, quite simply put it is superb. The subdued tension, the cinematography the lot, all of it is faultless. Excellent casting, excellent acting, just an excellent film. They should make a book out of this.

It's decent, but it pales before the telly programme.

The imitation game, 9/10

I was aware of this film when it came out but for whatever reason had never managed to see it, and incredible story brilliantly told and acted and all the more enthralling as it is a true story that still impacts our (often taken for granted) freedom today.

Based on a true story; it is by no means a documentary, which is why I am reticent about watching the film.

(I have nothing against films based on true stories, btw. But this true story is too important to me)

Last night we watched:
The Huntsman - A Winters tale. My wife liked it..
Hardcore Henry - I liked it. reminded me of the Jason Statham film Crank. Loved the FPS throughout.

Police Academy (the original) - hadn't seen it in 15-odd years and it was as hilarious as the first time I saw it. Spent the rest of the evening looking up who from the cast is still with us. A few notable absences (David Graff/Tackleberry), Bubba Smith (Hightower) and George Gaynes (C. Lessard) have passed (George was 98!) but good to see G W Bailey and Lesie Easterbrook are still with us smile

And to think, at the time, I thought Steve Guttenburg would be the next huge star! Whatever happened to him - he did Cocoon, and then seemingly very little.

Back then T Hanks and S Guttenberg were comparable, one went on to Hollywood domination, the other is most well known to me for being in a Simpson's song. biggrin

Fair enough there may be some inaccuracies (aren't there always when Hollywood gets involved, be thankful it wasn't an American team smile ), but the film is a very good one and it has led to me and I'm sure countless others wanting to find out more about Turing and the group and how enigma was broken, amazing story so I can forgive the inaccuracies.

A couple recorded from the Sky World Cinema slot on Wednesdays

Theeb - Bedouin boy in WW1 goes on trip with his older brother and English soldier. Not bad, great cinematography but not much happens. 5/10

Tangerines - Estonian farmer saves two soldiers from different sides of a conflict. Low budget but great story with nothing 'Hollywood' about it. 8/10
