hehe
More people on the spectrum in there than in an 80's computer night.
Very much so.

Last night: Kong - Skull Island

Not a bad effort, where Kong initially seems to be a generic violent monster his story develops quite nicely. Some of the editing seems to make a few leaps (maybe a director trying to trim run-time?) so a solid 5.7/7.5

Their Finest. Terrific ensemble cast with characters you care about. Great little movie.
We liked it, I thought Gemma Arterton was great. Wonder how often Bill Nighy can get away with always playing himself though

Dreadful. Having grown up with the franchise I couldn't stop laughing at the awful stupidity of it.

There must be something wrong with me. This was universally lauded on here but Ryan gosling holy st.

Please educate me. His acting consists of one straight face and standing bolt straight up and staring. 5 minutes of him clenching his fist with the same straight face staring. Cos you know 12 gauge at a few feet into shoulder is literally no issue at all.

The fight scene in the lift from behind when he's supposedly stomping some guys gead to pulp

He literally had no energy like he was tickling the floor. Compare with vinny jones in lock stock.

Why am I the only one who noticed he can't act? Tell me I'm wrong he the same in every film I've seen.

Kill somebody in a room stare at them With blood on face for 5 minutes.

Kill somebody in broad daylight in public with people around sit in car and stare.
I didn't mind the film, but I can agree with a lot of your points in regards to Ryan Gosling, I don't get it either - in most of his films he sort of looks like someone who's yawning without opening their mouth, like if you're stuck in a tragically bad meeting and you're trying to not look bored.
He sorts of mooches about - first time I saw him I though he was playing a mentally challenged character who just doesn't talk much, but it seems not - he's never given much dialog because he can't talk properly - he's got a sweet little girls voice, quiet and quite high pitched which he tries to hide by only talking at half the volume as everyone else, so for the most part he's either stifle-yawning into the middle distance or gliding about the place like a snake stalking a mouse whilst avoiding eye contact.

Guardian of the Galaxy Vol 2

Another excellent film, very fast paced - and constant laughs. As good as the original imo (and a little more humor following the character development - especially Drax).

Same exact thing in "Only God Forgives"

I'm sure he's a nice enough bloke. But his film choices are bizarre. I do kinda fear for the Blade Runner reboot a bit!

Back OT
Kill Bill 1 and Kill Bill 2 over consecutive nights.

First one is good, good choreography, the story rolls along, the effects from the Manga to the airplane over Okinawa is great. There's some little nods to other things. And Sweet Jesus Uma Thurman was good looking (and you know.. a good actress wink )

But Vol2 was just a film too much. Too wordy, didn't flow as well. The training scene was great but I felt Madsen wasn't used as much as he could have been. Carradines scenes are a bit odd, he doesn't even appear to like Thurmans character like the script would have you believe.

So 8/10 for the first and 6/10 for the second.

Seven Psychopaths. Free on amazon Prime. Christopher Walken is excellent as - you guessed it - one of several psychopaths. There are several good performances, in fact, and there is enough there to watch it to the end. But it is fundamentally a film about a scriptwriter writing a film, and that's both lazy writing and a crap film. 5/10

Homefront - a Stath film so you pretty much know what's going to happen. It's brain out fun

Trying to watch Bad Neighbours - 30 minutes in and it's poor. Really hope it picks up

After an epic trailer we watched Hollow point. This is a beautiful looking film but with a plot linked to its title.

Utter stool water, as entertaining as having wisdom teeth pulled.

Its ok but not the action fest the trailer portrayed. The plot is weak and no characters build any kind of relationship with you so you dont give a toss what happens and end up cheering the end titles on

Leon, The Professional.
I'm sure it does not need an explanation of the plot on here, I've watched it several times and it will be well known on PH.
For me one of the best films ever, thanks to the interaction between the main characters Leon (Jean Reno) and Mathilda ( a young Natalie Portman ) plus Gary Oldman who plays one of the meanest "baddies" I've ever seen. He is simply superb, especially the two occasions he takes a pill .......

Thoroughly recommended, especially the extended version where you see Leon start to train Mathilda. Superb from beginning to end.

100% yes
My favourite film.
The extended version is much darker than the general release.

I wish I'd read this earlier... how can a 'comedy' be so devoid of laughs?

Oh, not just me then. Watched most of that a few months ago when it was on TV, not that special really.

I watched "Middle Men" the other day, turned out to be better than I was expecting. Based on a true story about two guys who "invented" internet porn and the payment gateway, and where it all went a bit wrong.

I watched a couple of films over the weekend.

Finally got around to watching Kill List it was OK although I found the dialog a bit drawn out. It's the sort of movie I normally enjoy but for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, it just didn't do it for me. A solid but nothing special 6.5/10. I can think of a few movies that follow similar sinister paths that have lingered in my imagination much more than this one.

10 Cloverfield Lane Really average movie that failed to engage or impress me in any way. I stuck with it despite being bored just to find out what, if anything, was on the outside. Wished I hadn't bothered. 4/10

Revisited Ex Machina yesterday.

Superb, seamless, thoughtful sci-fi with genuine horrifying elements.

Easy 10/10

Then later, after a beer, I threw Alien: Resurrection in to the machine. What a mistake... So much wrong with it, apart from the beautifully disgusting "New Born". Don´t bother unless you´re really bored and feel the need to complete the "Quadrilogy".

The Hit List - so so actioner with Cuba Gooding Jr and Cole Hauser. No real sense of menace or thrills. Just a little better than formulaic

I saw Predestination for the first time last night.

I was told it was overrated rubbish by someone whose preferences I thought were similar to mine. Although I'd been given the DVD I just couldn't generate the necessary enthusiasm.

But I was captured by it. Really quite weird at times, and it required a bit of thought; just the things I like in scifi. The two leads' performances were immaculate.

Great fun to watch and a film that I keep going over in my mind. I'll watch it again soon.
