Hunt for the Wilderpeople Another 'been meaning to watch it for ages' and it didn't disappoint; black Kiwi humour, great script, looked beautiful, and anything with a cameo from Rhys Darby is right up there (this also applied to What We Do In The Shadows).

Been annoying everyone last week, walking around saying "this is Ricky Bake-a, he steals stuff, kicks stuff, tags stuffs, sets fire to stuff..."

It's the simple things that amuse me...
I like my movies but thought that this was a REAL disappointment, awful acting (especially from the lad), poor story, 4/10

I picked up Kevin Smiths book "Tough Sh*t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good" cheap in kindle the other day, which inspired me to watch Clerks this weekend. Not seen it in years and wasn't really sure if I'd find it as funny as when I was a student, but for a film in which not a lot happens I bloody loved it. 8/10

Will have to dig out Mallrats and Chasing Amy next. Not heard of Red Sate before though. Any film that uses "I fking love this movie - Quentin Tarantino" as a review has to have something going for it biggrin

Black labrador - same venue as the little boy on the airbed. Spielberg was heartless. I mean, a lab of all dogs. Why not some sort of pesky runt like a chihuahua, or a yobs' dog? Everyone likes a lab.
Best way to go - every black lab ends up fat and waddling along behind it's owner. Pippin was best eaten young.

I'm going to see The Hippopotamus on it's opening night after hearing the clip on Wittertainment last week - the script sounds fantastic for it - bit like Malcolm Tucker but in a toff accent.
Saw it last night + a live Q&A with Stephen Fry, Roger Allam, the director, script writer and Mark Kermode straight after it. Really enjoyed the film; Roger Allam is perfectly casted to deliver the lengthy and unabashed diatribes. However it did feel a bit like a made-for-TV film. If you've read the book, it does a fairly decent job of sticking to the main plot and in the Q&A they discussed why certain things had to be left out or updated.

Me, too. A good film, but not a great one. Only problem for me was that the pacing accelerated far too quickly at the end; everything after the reveal was dull and rushed. We do have the book (a present from me to the OH), so I might give it a read.

I watched "The Beat beneath my feet" the other day, quite jarring as I recorded it around Christmas so the ad break surrounds were quite festive. Pretty good film, quite predictable but watchable.

Last Man Standing - an ok short of 1920's 'western' did enjoy it but it was a little empty

Yeah, I agree. It was a remake of Fistful of Dollars, which itself was a remake (I think) if Yojimbo, but I didn't see the point.

Sing. A koala tries to organise an X-factor type talent show to save his ailing theatre. Featuring a mouse, a couple of pigs, a gorilla, an elephant and a porcupine, thanks to his best mate's nan - sheep - all is well in the end despite a bunch of gangster bears.

Superb nonsense and probably the best feel good film I'll see all year. Well worth a watch especially if you've got kids (we have, they're grown up now and they loved it!).

John Wick

It's currently included in Amazon Prime so I thought I would give it a go.

I must say that I found it quite difficult to follow the finely nuanced plot.

Been on a sci-fi binge lately...

Alien - Better than everything. Proving yet again that less is more (see also, Jaws), CGI has largely ruined this concept.

Life - A complete rip off of Alien which is actually better than the official complete rip off of Alien, speaking of which...

Alien Covenant - A complete rip off of Alien which manages to be worse than the incredibly generic, but fun 'Life' (see above)

Prometheus - Better than Covenant.

Passengers - One Autodoc, seriously? Otherwise I enjoyed it far more than I expected to.

laugh I couldn't actually finish the film. I'm sure it would entertain an 8-year old.

I'm only 9 and three quarters and I thought it was damn near perfect brain out glossy escapism, much better than Fireman Sam.

Just to add to John Wick... the actor who played the crime lord's son appeared to be playing exactly the same character as he did in Game of Thrones.

Not seen Wick, had to google, Alfie ALlen? Theon goes through pretty big character changes in GoT.

Has anyone here watched A Monster Calls....I saw it last week and thought it was astonishing especially the acting of the lad in the main role, probably the best child acting I've ever seen. Rather bemused as to how few people have seen it.. but I'm sure some are put off by the title and CGI monster tree!
