Gonna watch Top Gun at some point, especially after I watched one of those YT videos explaining things about the film. Apparently (you'll like this).... they filmed a load of awesome military jet footage and then realized they didn't really have much of a story to go around it. Gets a thumbs up from me.
Top Gun 2 is on the horizon too....Quickmoose said:

They better dust off those F-14 Tomcats then. It won't the same without them.
Wellll they're dusting off Tom Cruise, so I don't see why not Actually, it's been over 30 years, I don't even know if she's still alive. Haven't heard of her for decades.

it is based on a play, and the film plays out like a play. i think just having jack lemon in it makes it a masterpiece in ensemble acting, a really great film.
Indeed, but also Ed Harris and House of Cards man! Not to mention the small famous cameo by Thingy Baldwin.Halb said:

Another oldie seen for the first time in years. On the Syfy channel The Last Starfighter, the CGI is bad even for 1984.
I think you'll find it was very much state of the art in 1984.I used to love that movie. Must really try and get a DVD of it.
In fact, so groundbreaking that I remember New Scientist running a multi-page feature on it, and predicting that this heralded a new age of film-making and pointing out how little CGI that Tron actually had and how the shortcomings of this new art form were skillfully concealed in the computerised world of Tron whereas Last Starfighter was taking a huge leap by putting it out there in the "real" world.
There was even an exhibition in the Science Museum on the state of computer graphics and Last Starfighter was the poster child for it. I visited it as part of a school trip and remember being awestruck by it.
So, no, it was not "bad even for 1984" - quite the opposite. It only looks so because we are so used to how CGI is now.
I watched Hurt Locker last night. I struggled with it. The Brit blokes in the desert who fell apart when one of them got shot. The gung-ho going out alone resulting in a serious injury to a lower rank, then another seemingly with no reprimand. Then a Colonel being allowed to stand alone with possible hostile males around him. Surprise he died. It looked like it'd make a good film but badly finished. 4/10.

I watched Apocalypto last night on C4 . I'd seen it before but had forgotten about it. One of the best subtitled films I've seen(and the only one in Mayan).
It's also brutal and some scenes are difficult to watch. Excellent apart from that He likes a bit of brutal gore.....Passion of the Christ I couldn't watch for the same reason...
