I think he's a LUcas, he has made great films despite himself, probably thanks to input of others.

Omfg Prometheus is no longer the worst film ever made. Somebody stop that guy making films.
Bad on so many levels.

Me too. We watched Prometheus at the cinema and even though tickets are only £2.50 each, I still felt short changed. I don't think I will watch Alien Covenant even when it comes on Sky Movies, as I know exactly what it'll be like, and it will just annoy me.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010)

I assume this was aimed at teens because it passed me by, back in the day and it's a bit weird but somehow enjoyable.
it really shouldn't work, on so many levels but it does.
It was this film that finally convinced me I must be getting old. I thought it was pure garbage.

I read a very good piece on Gizmodo or Kotaku or Den of Geek (I forget which) which lauded him as a fantastic cinematographer but not a great story teller, and that he works best in collaboration with others who let him play to his strengths and fill in for his weaknesses.

I'd agree with that, and I don't mean to belittle him with the statement.

(I might possibly have posted a link to the article earlier in the thread, now that I think about it)

War For The Planet Of The Apes.

Took the family to see this in 2D last night. Superb. Not so much a war film but a reconsideration of many a dystopian or war film over the last forty or fifty years ( and history from before that) and two main protagonists who were both right, one of which took us back a full circle to the 1968 original.

Breathtaking 10/10.

No, no you don't. It's much much worse.

Yeah, I wrote a while back he was a good advert maker, I meant the same thing by that. Most if not all of hi films look amazing, but I wouldn't wana watch many of them again.

Entertaining enough not as good as I thought it would be, some good dialogue and some of the ridiculous shooting got me mildly amused.

6/10.
Just watched it, there certainly were no winners. Never pick a fight with a gun dealer. 6/10

Man Down

Seems the critics have absolutely slated this Shia le Bouf movie, but it seemed quite a poignant film to me. It has a serious point to put across, and it shows it in a fairly novel way. It deals with the psychological effects war has on a person, and the reveal the film gives at the end was nicely done. To describe much more would give away the crux of the film, but it's certainly one of those that once you seen it, it won't be quite the same as you know what's coming.

Logan

I like Marvel movies as brain-out popcorn fodder but have never really been "in to" the X-Men series, Ive only seen about half of them.

This was good. Gritty, violent, heartfelt with an actual story to back it up. It lost pace a bit before the final confrontation (which, for once, didn't involve destroying major landmarks) but then really picked up again.

Great stuff. 8/10

Agree with your Logan review, I watched it last night and thought it was great.

The character study superhero films are always the best. Iron Man 3, the Nolan Batman films, etc. There's no need to constantly blow stuff up and use CGI in every frame, as seeing the heros struggle with who they are is much more interesting.

I really enjoyed this and thought it was great fun.

Watched Straight Outta Compton and War Dogs over the weekend. Both good.

The Mummy - quite good.

Alien Covenant and Prometheus I thought were great but you need to be a big fan of the Alien movies it seems (with the exception of AVP2 which was budget/crap-tastic!)

Logan was a bit dull. I don;t want to see superheros getting old/fading away.

I was a big fan of the Alien movies! The first two were excellent. Prometheus doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Alien and Aliens. Covenant, I wouldn't even bother to watch after wasting a couple of hours of my life watching Prometheus.

yep, my feelings too.

I have bought Life on Amazon Video. I know people have said that it's derivative, but, like Kong: Skull Island, I will treat it as a higher budget brains-out B-Movie, and enjoy it as such. The new Alien films were supposed to be several cuts above this, but clearly, they weren't.

Have you seen the new Spider-man?

Quite the opposite, I would have thought.
