Planet of the Apes was decent, as someone already mentioned it was more of a skirmish but I really enjoyed the old-schoolness of the storytelling. It wasn't rushed, taking time to develop the characters most of whom interesting albeit often predictable. Few plot holes typical for the american post apocalyptic movie didn't spoil the fun (surely someone in Europe, Australia or at least Iceland should've survived?).

We're going to see Dunkirk on 70mm on Friday, can't wait to see it. I even commented how great The Hateful Eight 70mm screening was on the cinema fb profile and got a nice thank you message from the projection engineer, it made my day.

Managed to track down and buy a DVD copy of 1986's The Wraith. A film I hadn't seen for three decades. It is still a fun (and very cheesy) watch, helped by a perfect picture transfer and sound.
Love that film.

Gutterboy: Who is that guy?

Skank: I don't know, but whoever he was, he's weird and pissed off!

I didn't say it was a good film, just that I like it and of course the Turbo interceptor

I would have never paid to see something like that at the cinema! I remember it from a VHS rental (never even knew it had a cinema release). I enjoyed it for what it was and, amazingly, I still found it watchable, from a nostalgia POV.

I must say, compared to some of the utter ste you can rent via Amazon Video (the terrible iPad/phone made movies made by people with no talent whatsoever), it's a relative masterpiece!

Sounds like they lifted that line directly out of The Thing.

I bought an Amazon stick a few months back.

Why oh why is the quality of the films so dire on Netflix and prime?

There are a few classics and few good movies but it takes ages to sift through them to find anything decent.

They must be churning them out somewhere.................

I suspect that ads like this found in film mags are partly to blame for the awful quality of the bulk of the films:

I note both Amazon and Netflix are there...

Logan

I like Marvel movies as brain-out popcorn fodder but have never really been "in to" the X-Men series, Ive only seen about half of them.

This was good. Gritty, violent, heartfelt with an actual story to back it up. It lost pace a bit before the final confrontation (which, for once, didn't involve destroying major landmarks) but then really picked up again.

Great stuff. 8/10
Overall I liked it but I found the end rather weak. There is clip or two in the extras/cuts that are pretty much essential for linking the middle to the end of the story, but was cut for running time.

The kids where supposed to be created as weapons but basically get their asses kicked by the mercs. A missed opportunity

I never did 'get' why logan was losing his regen power, and prof X kept having mind-quakes. maybe i missed that bit of dialog ?

I thought Logans regen

was a result of what happened in Japan in The Wolverine?

Baby Driver I didn't dislike it but I can't say it was anything like as good as the hype would have you believe, might improve on a second viewing.

Tour De Pharmacy Pretty funny with some brilliant work from Lance Armstrong in it.

The Martian Just as good as last time, superb movie.

Going in Style

About 3 old guys, played by Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin.

It kept me interested all the way through, I though it was good.

Revisiting some older films with my son

Goonies - just a great film and not that dated. Can't think many people wouldn't like this!

Lost Boys - Another film that is worth a watch.

If you're having an 80's fest..

Explorers, Flight of the navigator and The last Starfighter are worth a shout smile

There was some dialogue from Logan that suggested he believed it was metal poisoning from his implants, but that is unconvincing. I was assuming the proper explanation was the same reason for there being no more mutants being born. What was revealed to be the anti-mutant food additive
