Films I watched this week
Discussion
Planet of the Apes was decent, as someone already mentioned it was more of a skirmish but I really enjoyed the old-schoolness of the storytelling. It wasn't rushed, taking time to develop the characters most of whom interesting albeit often predictable. Few plot holes typical for the american post apocalyptic movie didn't spoil the fun (surely someone in Europe, Australia or at least Iceland should've survived?).
We're going to see Dunkirk on 70mm on Friday, can't wait to see it. I even commented how great The Hateful Eight 70mm screening was on the cinema fb profile and got a nice thank you message from the projection engineer, it made my day.

My advice is to watch the trailer a few times and then you have got it!

Managed to track down and buy a DVD copy of 1986's The Wraith. A film I hadn't seen for three decades. It is still a fun (and very cheesy) watch, helped by a perfect picture transfer and sound.
Gutterboy: Who is that guy?
Skank: I don't know, but whoever he was, he's weird and pissed off!

I must say, compared to some of the utter ste you can rent via Amazon Video (the terrible iPad/phone made movies made by people with no talent whatsoever), it's a relative masterpiece!

I bought an Amazon stick a few months back.
Why oh why is the quality of the films so dire on Netflix and prime?
There are a few classics and few good movies but it takes ages to sift through them to find anything decent.
They must be churning them out somewhere.................
I suspect that ads like this found in film mags are partly to blame for the awful quality of the bulk of the films:Why oh why is the quality of the films so dire on Netflix and prime?

I note both Amazon and Netflix are there...

Logan
I like Marvel movies as brain-out popcorn fodder but have never really been "in to" the X-Men series, Ive only seen about half of them.
This was good. Gritty, violent, heartfelt with an actual story to back it up. It lost pace a bit before the final confrontation (which, for once, didn't involve destroying major landmarks) but then really picked up again.
Great stuff. 8/10
Overall I liked it but I found the end rather weak. There is clip or two in the extras/cuts that are pretty much essential for linking the middle to the end of the story, but was cut for running time.I like Marvel movies as brain-out popcorn fodder but have never really been "in to" the X-Men series, Ive only seen about half of them.

The kids where supposed to be created as weapons but basically get their asses kicked by the mercs. A missed opportunity

Revisiting some older films with my son
Goonies - just a great film and not that dated. Can't think many people wouldn't like this!
Lost Boys - Another film that is worth a watch.

Explorers, Flight of the navigator and The last Starfighter are worth a shout

I thought Logans regen
was a result of what happened in Japan in The Wolverine?
was a result of what happened in Japan in The Wolverine?
There was some dialogue from Logan that suggested he believed it was metal poisoning from his implants, but that is unconvincing. I was assuming the proper explanation was the same reason for there being no more mutants being born. What was revealed to be the anti-mutant food additive
Also
If so the wilderness burial does give them an out for him to regenerate.
