City of Lost Children

Well, I expected it to be odd. I didn't expect it to be rather boring. frown

Black Dynamite - a homage to the 70's Blacksplotation films full of deliberately dodgy effects, random editing, extreme afros, kung-fu treachery and plenty of jive suckers. It's actually really hard to make a film that's purposefully bad, since most of the time you just make a bad film, but this one succeeds and had me laughing throughout. Would definitely recommend.
Got this on your recommendation. Was it excellent? You bet yo tight ass it was, mofo.
Why have you seen, I've Gonna Git You Sucka!

Young Adult, sky said it was a comedy, and I found it very funny, in the vein of Broken Flowers, a great feel bad comedy.

Just switched on something called Cosmopolis, by Cronenberg, only caught the last third, wish I'd seen all of it.

Do you mean the weird French film from the '90s? I liked it a lot when it was released, but not seen it since. Perhaps it hasn't aged well.

Dunkirk.

Cracking film. It was pointed out at the start but for some reason my brain chose not to properly comprehend what it was told so it was a bit confusing for a while as there are several stories being told but from different points in the same 24hrs that all end up intertwining a la "Go".

Definitely worth a watch if just to hear the Spitfire and get the tiniest inkling of what it must've been like to see them in proper action.

Spiderman Homecoming.
4/10 - meh.
Just too many of these things now - supported by people like me going to see it. (Although my niece chose so technically her fault)
Felt like an over long Audi advert in places - every car was a sodding Audi.

Octopussy.

Then the wife found an utterly dire thing on movies 24 that was something to do with a man and a woman, a Labrador and a fatal illness.

Cannot for the life of me remember what is was called - but it was somewhat better than Octopussy.

I have zero affinity or passion for Marvel/DC so watch these things just as a movie - this one was enjoyable, thought the young Superman guy was right balance of naive / brave / likeable and RDJ and Keaton are always watchable. Went with my daughter and she picked (thwarting my Dunkirk plans) - hopefully this starts a consistent superman franchise with a decent plot line.

Had to explain to a 10 year old that "porn" was just a rude word, that we'll explain in a few years rolleyes

6.7/10

I was persueded by my son to start watching the series Fargo. Compared to all the usual crap around, I thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes, a revelation!

Back to films.

Last night I reacquainted myself with the original Cohen Brothers film, (Fargo) much darker than the series.

I first watched this when it came out and it still shone through as an all time great, ya, you betcha.........

Recommended viewing for all that missed it.

Train to Busan

Korean zombie/infection movie. Fast moving, aggressive zombies in this one.
Brutal. And certainly not one I could see Hollywood making.

7 bites out of 10.

I know a place we can get laid!

Love that movie, one of their best & Deakins makes it beautiful to look at into the bargain.

Finally got round to watching Wonder Woman the other day. It was ok but I was a bit disappointed compared the hype it had received. Some nice action bits and it started out fairly well but could have done with someone over the age of 10 being involved in developing the story.

Land: (the Mole) was set over a week
Sea: was set over a day
Air: was set over an hour

I loved how as the film moved forwards more and more of the 3 lines crossed each other.

A very raw film, very little script, a great score.... nothing gratuitous, but you're not left in any doubt about peril, bravery, dread, relief and all the other intense emotion of war. A decent cast, each aspect could easily have a film of it's own....SO good to see quality film making that involves a Spitfire.
As an aside when I saw it over the weekend, there were more than a few teenagers....and more than a few of them were girls.... The Harry Styles effect I assume. He does a decent job of the bit he had to be fair...and I'm wondering if by casting him, a large wedge of today's kids will watch this to see him but end up learning a thing or two about our history...
