I'm with the two guys above. A few quid doesn't bother me either way compared to what we spend all our cars!

How can you watch them for free?
Everything is free if you know where to look. It's brilliant. It really is.
Oh... you mean steal them.

My brother showed me a "bluray" quality download of beauty and the beast a month or so ago rofl more like vhs quality. I said no thanks. I'll buy it for my kids when it comes out (haven't gotten around to it yet though)

Still if you want to break the law and watch an inferior quality product...

I think if you pay to watch a film you give it your full attention. So many on here open with a statement like "I was watching x whilst surfing the net" or similar. If you weren't watching it how can you say if it was good or bad?

Finally you do know that if everyone did what you are doing the best entertainment we could hope for would be YouTube vloggers.

You've been using the internet for this long and you really need to ask?

We only pay to see a movie when it's something that really needs the big screen experience and speaking of the big screen, when did it become so expensive? Is it any wonder the average punter is streaming movies from the comfort of their own homes.
This.

@rob 'em Mcdonald

If you try to watch a film too soon after it comes out at the cinema.. yes it will be a blurry horrible screener. if you wait, then you can stream in full glorious 1080p ( 4k if you pre-download it )

but to those that have forked out £000,000,000's on a blueray collection.. I thank you for funding the industry to keep providing me with freebies.

same goes for music.. as there is absolutely no advantage to purchasing that hehe

Despicable Me 3 at the cinema with my kids last week.
More of the same, for me they should have left it at 2. Kids loved it though.

Split - with James McAvoy, on Sky last night. (Sshh, I paid £5.49 for that). It was OK, but probably dragged on twenty minutes longer than they needed it to. A surprise cameo in the last 30 seconds leads me to believe they're lining up a Split 2.....

I don't want to come over as a sanctimonious pr1ck because I am no stranger to downloading media, but you need to give back. Go watch films in the cinema as much as you can. The industry will die without revenue and then we'll end up with just dross to download (the emoticons movie, anyone ?)

A mate of mine is in the film industry and (rightfully) berates me for the way I acquire movies. I go to the cinema as often as I see something worthwhile to do my bit.

I take the point^, but are you SUPPORTING the industry or ENABLING it to continue to charge extortionate ticket prices which the cinemas don't even take a great share of hence them charging even more ridiculous sums for food and drink...?

So don't pay whatever your local cinema charges, and wait for it to come to Prime or Netflix etc. As mentioned before, is £1.99 extortionate?

I quite often go to an independent cinema near me, or the Everyman. These are £9 and £13 I think, both of which are entirely fair prices for what they offer.

Of course. I pay the price and I say thank you. I know they charge £5 for 30pence of popcorn, that's part of the deal. This keeps all of the supporting industries fed.

We want movies the future, don't we smile ??

THe wife and I have everyman subscriptions and I like it so much I wont' go anywhere else now (except maybe the imax). You get free tickets worth the value of the annual fee, you get 10% discount on top of that. And you get to sit in a nice cinema without sticky carpets.

Ahh.. for someone to steal somethnig from me.. they would be permanently depriving me of said item.

the film guys still have their film in their possession, im not permanently depriving them of anything.

im not stealing when i listen to the radio, or when i visit the art gallery seeing all the crappy pictures.

same difference.

Oh, the same old "I'm not stealing anything" argument.

You can dress it up any way you want, but if the only way to watch a recently-released film legally is to pay for it, and you watch a hooky copy without paying for it, then you've watched it without paying for it when you should have. Call it whatever you want, and justify to your conscience (if you have one) however you want, but we both know what it is.

No, not the same, because the radio company has paid royalties to the artist for the rights to broadcast it.

I'm not sure there's a moral highground here, the entire Hollywood movie industry was built on the theft of someone else's IP (specifically, producers moved to Hollywood to avoid paying Edison the fees on his patents) and fking people over through 'Hollywood Accounting'. For example, Forrest Gump author Winston Groom getting screwed on his royalties, or David Prowse not receiving a penny because Return of the Jedi has 'never made a profit'.

So a few individual cases where an individual didn't get their dues means we can all steal media freely ? Not sure that one adds up. The norm *has* to be where people get paid or it all falls apart.
