Films I watched this week
Discussion
I didn't say that it was okay, what I'm saying is if the movie studios don't give a st about screwing over artists, then why on earth do you expect the man in the street to care?
And it's hardly a few examples, the industry is rife with it. Some of the biggest franchises are huge failures on paper; LotR, Harry Potter, etc

I pay £17.99 a month for an Odeon Limitless membership and so long as you see 1.5 movies a month then you're quids in. I tend to go at least once month and sometimes as many as 5. It's great! I also pay £14.99 for an Apple Music family membership for me and the wife.
I love it. All paid up so can watch movies or listen to music as much as I like without thinking about having to pay for it.

I'm not sure there's a moral highground here, the entire Hollywood movie industry was built on the theft of someone else's IP (specifically, producers moved to Hollywood to avoid paying Edison the fees on his patents) and fking people over through 'Hollywood Accounting'. For example, Forrest Gump author Winston Groom getting screwed on his royalties, or David Prowse not receiving a penny because Return of the Jedi has 'never made a profit'.
So a few individual cases where an individual didn't get their dues means we can all steal media freely ? Not sure that one adds up. The norm *has* to be where people get paid or it all falls apart.Oakey said:

your argument should be then you don't watch any films, not i don't pay to watch films, as this is a separate issue, as you are justifying your actions because they do potentially dodgy stuff, but you are doing dodgy stuff as well so it is a moot point. And it's hardly a few examples, the industry is rife with it. it really needs another thread as it is clear the people that watch for free have convinced themselves it is right thing, for what ever reasons it cant be money as the values are pretty small.

Its not even the "getting it for free" element that's desirable.
its the endless unskippable nagging and the embedded DRM stopping me doing with it as i please.

Edison was thief, the patent system at the time (and still can be) was a racket.Oakey said:

Maybe discuss this on another thread?
Agreed I'm glad this isn't NPE.
People will always find a way to justify bending the rules or breaking laws if it suits them.
This isn't the place to do that.
I took my eldest to the cinema to see Cars 3 today, even paid for popcorn (apparently you can get it free, you just have to run out of the shop)
The film wasn't great to be honest. Basically an animated days of thunder with a twist at the end.
A bit of a comedown after seeing Dunkirk yesterday.
5/10
