'It Follows'

A couple of years old this one, but the first I'd heard of it, watched it last night with the Mrs both not knowing a single thing about it, we both loved it. Very creepy, soundtrack and cinematography both excellent, not the usual Hollywood teen horror flick you would expect.

Dr. No

Not watched it in years, and as the film that kicked off one of the biggest movie series ever it's interesting to see how things changed over the series. It's a pretty decent action thriller and a lot less cheesy than later (Moore) films, with no reliance on gadgets, although Major Boothroyd (sadly not Desmond Lewellyn) does show up briefly.

A solid 8/10

Inspired by seeing "Q the music" the other day, an orchestra doing a couple of hours of Bond music. As I'm working away from home for a few months I figured I've got time to work through the whole lot.

Watched 'Event Horizon' this week.

Not nearly as cool or scary as I remember from when I was 11.

I was browsing a 'pre loved' games shop on Saturday, trying to find the original Half Life game. Nobody seems to have it any more.
What platform? If it's PC you can still get the legacy Black Mesa version of Half-Life for free - http://www.moddb.com/mods/black-mesa/downloads

Info on Black Mesa, scroll down for other locations for download under Download Legacy section - https://www.blackmesasource.com/

all the best of Half-Life with a new game engine and better visuals.

Or the original (+ all expansion packs) are on STEAM for pittance.

No but I rewatched Dredd (the latest one) on Sunday - short, sharp and to the point. Nice and violent, quite a few subtle nods to the comic strip. Good fun, and he didn't take his helmet offsmile

Every now and then I find it just started on ITV4 around midnight as I'm heading up to bed. I'm then forced to sit up until 2am watching it and am useless next day.

The Saint
Simon Cowell takes the title role and disguises himself as Robert Lindsay. Using bits of script from Batman Begins, 007 and the obligatory totally fictional tech of Mission Impossible, he battles two former Saints to achieve a no- brainer and very predictable film which is nonetheless watchable without taxing your mind at all. 5/10

Judgement at Nuremburg

A black and white film of the infamous war crime trials.
Perhaps a strange choice, but curiosity got the better of me when I found it on YouTube in a moment of boredom.

WOW ! What a cast.
Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Judy Garland, William Shatner, Marlene Dietrich, Richard Widmark, and Maximillian Schell who I can immdiately name from memory. Every one, top draw actors/actresses who you consider as real stars. I can't think of another film which brought that number of quality stars together.

Lancaster was stunning, Tracy lived up to his reputation, Dietrich had that 'look' and the courtroom drama that unfolded was outstanding. Not a film for casual entertainment, especially as it is 3 hours long but I ended the movie with a profound sigh. Give it a try if you fancy it.

Obviously a 10 for me.

Constantine. Keanu Reeves as the comic book character, saving Rachel Weisz's sister form hell, and the rest of us. Tilda Swinton is a good twist of Gabriel. It's still really good. 8/10.

Firefox is a classic.

Scanners is great, and could benefit from a remake.

The Farthest. Just great, loved it, a definitive history of the Voyager missions. On one level, it's a standard Discovery style documentary, then the sheer ambition of the missions dawns, so many firsts & except for Carl Sagan, they're all in it. 10/10
